Nothing can make them take Democrats more seriously and nothing can make them take Republicans less seriously.

No left-aligned advocate anywhere can say anything silly or else the Dem Party must bow & scrape & apologize & promise to be more masculine going forward. The president can make a video of himself shitting on Americans from a plane & the GOP will never be asked about it. Those are just the rules.

I wonder if there are any long-term effects from the fact that every single Democrat who wants to distinguish him or herself begins with "I'm not like those other Democrats, those silly children, those fey academics, those utter dipshits." I wonder if that benefits the party over time.

The true theological first principle.

I am not kidding at all when I say that every Democrat with a microphone should mock JD Vance every chance they get between now and 2028. Call him weird and feckless. Laugh at his eyeliner & dumb beard. Talk about the nazis & freaks he follows on Twitter. *Brand* him.

All these right wingers who converted to Catholicism in adulthood were just shopping around for an ideology that justified their pre-existing instincts and prejudices. If you convince them that Catholicism means peace and charity they'll just drop it and keep shopping.

Starting to wonder if they're on the up & up!

It's the same story for literally every air & water regulation of the last century.

Walking in Seattle is getting more dangerous. The numbers show it Despite millions spent trying to make Seattle's roads less dangerous, deaths and serious injuries continue to trend upward.

How's "Vision Zero," Seattle's purported plan to reduce pedestrian deaths to zero by 2030, going?

"Nearly twice as many pedestrians were killed on Seattle streets last year compared with the year before..."

Oh.

RFK Jr. once chopped off a dead raccoon’s penis to ‘study later’ while on a family road trip The bizarre account was unearthed in the new book “RFK Jr.: The Fall and Rise,” authored by The Post’s own Isabel Vincent, who drew upon a wide range of sources including private …

"Robert F. Kennedy Jr., an avid animal genitalia researcher in his spare time, once pulled the family sedan to the side of the road after spying a dead raccoon and swiftly cut off its sex organs so he could 'study them later.'"

You think "sloploads of treacle" and Breaking Bad are our two choices?

11 hours ago 4 0 1 0

Yes and why so much criticism in the age of "poptimism" just suuuuuuucks.

I feel like there are a dozen mini-versions of that going on basically all the time these days.

A stone classic.

Yes, that's kind of the reductio of the phenomenon I'm talking about. Like, what if you had actually ZERO artistic vision at all & made a move PURELY composed of fan service? That's what it looks like.

Yes, it was demonstrably wrong *at the time*. Pure Fox bubble stuff.

Yes. He was an asshole to her, and not in any way that could be justified as "tough love." It's just bad teaching, bad mentoring.

However low your opinion of the Roberts Court, it should be lower.

And on the basis of this -- a pure policy disagreement about which he was demonstrably, wildly wrong -- Roberts dreamed up "major questions doctrine" & thereby rendered US law one big game of Calvinball.

You just can't exaggerate how low, how scummy, how dumb, how fraudulent it all was.

Another way of saying this is that the regulations would have had a cost of zero. They would not have required the power sector to do anything it wasn't going to do already.

Roberts said it would be the most expensive reg ever (because he heard that on Fox). But it cost nothing.

Really gotta emphasize this: the targets & requirements in the Clean Power Plan were *so* modest, *so* conservative, *so* unambitious that *the power sector met them anyway, in the course of normal market operation*. The regs would have had basically no effect at all relative to the status quo.
