In the past year we've had a series of papers with results that've shocked #climate scientists - the globe is heating #FasterThanExpected & we don't fully know why

The public discourse is not keeping up.

Here's a series of 5 new studies that climate hawks & journos need to have on their radar 🧵

Would be interesting to see a graph comparing energy prices and energy used per unit of GDP and see if Europe end up being more competitive

Tarrifs for the working class and tax cuts for the rich. It’s a smart electoral strategy even if economically disastrous.

Covid vaccines is a non-issue in Europe and only recommended for vulnerable and elderly groups and even there not much. I don’t see why you would want to get vaccinated at this point

Playing devils advocate here, but what other solution is there for Ukraine but to accept the status quo? Without massive increase in support from US and EU, they won’t regain anything. And that support is not coming unfortunately.

Trade deficits matter: US imports > exports, funded by a financial surplus—mostly stocks & bonds, not new factories. In 2023, greenfield FDI was just 1.5% of it. It’s trading goods for paper assets, not building industry.

It’s China’s and to a lesser extend Japan and Germany’s beggar thy neighbor trade policies that got us Trump and these tarrifs, not the other way around…

Without tarrifs or a currency peg this is what happens. 1997 Asia crisis was the real turning point with the build up of offshore dollar reserves. The solution is likely monetary and not tarrifs.

But only China and the EU have enough leverage and market size to engage in a trade war and even they probably don’t have the appetite. Trumps gamble might just work out.

If Trumps gamble works 10% tariffs across the board will stay and deals will be made with individual surplus countries to cut their surpluses through various adjustments, and things will stabilize. Off course it can also turn into an all out downward spiral trade war…

Let’s say Trump’s tariffs work and the US closes its trade deficit. Where will countries get their trade and reserve currency dollars from? That would cause a massive dollar shortage and global recession.
