With Designs, Daisuke Igarashi explores our relationship with nature, science, animals and war. It's a violent, raw and deeply moral fresco that invites reflection on humanity, its foolishness and its cultures. An absolutely essential read for sci-fi manga fans.

From a 19th century boys’ boarding school to the far reaches of space, I highly recommend Keiko Takemiya’s manga. Kaze to Ki no Uta and Terra E are her greatest masterpieces. Started in the 1970s, they are still just as beautiful and relevant today.

It’s hard to find romantic stories as intense as Drowning Love by George Asakura. If you’re looking for a shoujo manga that won’t leave you indifferent, this is the one for you.

I’ve never seen a mangaka portray the wild, its fauna and its relationship with humans as well as Daisuke Igarashi does. Reading his work (Children of the Sea, Witches, Little Forest) feels like an invitation to connect more deeply with the natural world.

Kowloon Generic Romance ends in Japan today with the release of its final volume. It’s one of my favorite manga of the 2020s, so I can’t recommend it enough. It explores existential themes through a mix of sci-fi and slice-of-life. It has a strong sense of nostalgia.

The comeback of REAL makes me so happy, it’s one of my favorite manga. I feel like I’ve grown up with the characters and that Takehiko Inoue is speaking directly to me. Here are the covers for Young Jump and volume 17.
