Having these headcanons is ofc fine, but I just don't personally like them. I feel like dwarves are often portrayed as an almost infantilized race that needs to be "saved" (where their culture is wrong, hobbit culture is "right") due to fanon/popular tropes and that bothers me.

....fandom tropes which is the EXTREMELY popular trope of "dwarves do not know agriculture" (contrary to canon dwarves) where Bilbo is the one to teach dwarves how to farm and feed themselves (I guess when they exist independently away from other races they just starve in this trope).

Though many fandom tropes are about the ways hobbits are "better" than dwarves. Like how Bilbo is often portrayed in fanwork as being more skilled and knowledgeable in ruling a dwarf kingdom than the dwarvish royal family is themselves, and this trope is often combined with one of my most hated...

Regarding hobbits/dwarves fandom tropes, it's interesting that the fandom trope of "hobbits being more resistant to poisonous plants than dwarves" is so popular. Dwarves are famously sturdy and resistant to any sickness, doesn't it make more sense for them to have such resistance?

My tumblr is dying a slow death, I mainly use it as an archive nowadays (because it's been bad for a while) but it's crazy how much my numbers have tanked on there. I've been posting art (on different accounts) there since 2010, it's never been this bad before and it makes me sad for artists

AAND they are scottish too

Oh yeah this bothers me too when it comes to lore fans, esp as everything in the legendarium is written by unreliable and biased narrators. I think in this case though it's because people just don't have the energy to read stuff (and because people get scared off by Silm)

Me constantly forgetting to add body hair to dwarves and seeing it after posting because I'm in such a rush to finish my pieces lmao

HEENCE I decided Grór and other recorded Durin's Folk dwarves in the family tree (which does exclude all the women in the family except Dís) can and should be women even if they might largely be seen as male dwarves by other races. At least in my head, and it's more fun that way

The legendarium itself is unreliable, I subscribe to the fact that "Nothing can be trusted in the legendarium regarding the dwarves". All dwarves appear male to other races, so I feel the gender of recorded dwarves is extra unreliable. What if the legendarium is just mistaken?

Grór Grór was a Dwarf and a significant leader among the people of Durin.

tolkiengateway.net/wiki/Gr%C3%B3r I know you said ignore the question but I'll answer anyways, this is my own version of Grór (who I decided should be fem). I am not a canon compliant artist and one thing I dislike is the way the legendarium handles dwarvish women + relationships

I really really need you guys to make a conscious rejection of generative AI tools part of your ongoing political resistance.

Don't use ChatGPT. Turn off Gemini. Don't read the AI results forced upon you at the top of Google search. Don't use AI art generators or support anyone who does. Please.

I have noticed a lot of people do not even consider reading the legendarium itself even when they actively have a strong interest in the topic. Though it may be because I operate in "The Hobbit" sphere where people are generally not well versed in non PJ movie lore? Idk

I often get questions about which websites are the most reliable as a source when learning tolkien lore, and my answer is always the same. It's the texts this guy wrote himself.

thank you so much!

There is! Or well, it is a prevalent fandom trope anyways when it comes to tolkien dwarf fanworks (though it mainly shows up in the hobbit sphere of all the tolkien sub fandoms)

The term "rendering" has been used in that context for a very long time among professional digital artists, I just think lately the term has made the rounds among hobbyists as well. So it's not just for video and 3D
