People keep saying that AI is inevitable.

Like Bartleby, I'd prefer not to...

We "have to use it!"

My response to that is simply... WHY? Why is it being pushed so much and into so many things? Once you've gotten people to cede their decision making to an algorithm, eventually they'll stop thinking for themselves.

Why would I outsource thinking for myself to a machine? I have a brain.

Its worthwhile listening to what AI education boosters are saying:

When a positive study comes out about AI, they proclaim that AI will revolutionize education.

When a study shows AI inaccuracy and harm, they say "AI should be used alongside teachers."

They always recommend using AI.

For them it is not about what is best for students, or teachers, or society as a whole.

It is how best to use their favourite golden hammer in every possible situation.

Recent brought up this issue with a group of digital leads and headteachers. They were unaware of this, of the worker exploitation and the extreme types of material that they had to view. They were quite shocked.

Wow, Elon Musk sure does like White people | Opinion Elon Musk, the world's richest man and a guy whose social media platform most companies still use, is a BIG fan of White people. Problematically so.

Elon Musk is incessantly promoting vile white supremacy. Why is anyone - and certainly any company - still on X?

AI across the Primary Curriculum - WD001 Search our Events Finder for business related training, workshops, networking, seminars and more from a variety of organisations

Here’s a link to a course that the government are promoting to help primary school teachers make the most of AI. Looking at the details of the course, I’m getting concerned that the updated DCF will be more focused on using this tech and little on

This article has put into words how I’m feeling about narrative from the Welsh Government for the use of generative AI in schools. It feels like they have already decided that this is the ‘future’, one which both teachers and pupils will have to embrace. With as far as I can see, almost zero…

“It also frames people as either consumers or producers, leaving them no room to be resisters or avoiders, or to consider whether an AI-assisted approach to a task is appropriate, beneficial and without social or environmental impacts.” 👏🏻
This is my worry with where we are heading with edu in Wales.

My employer just sent out training material on AI Integration and in addition to the wonderful definition of the term "Hallucination" in regards to AI, it also repeatedly stressed everything would be reviewed and overseen by Humans. So we're just adding another layer of complexity for no benefit.

Text from a UK government education blog. Will teachers be replaced by Al?
Absolutely not.
Teachers are irreplaceable, and Al could never be a substitute for teachers' professional judgement and the personal relationships they have with their students.
We're developing Al tools specifically to support teachers, not to replace the unique role they play in education. These tools are designed to handle repetitive tasks that currently take teachers' energy away from face to face classroom interactions.

Doesn’t this AI tutoring project contradict what was written in this blog from the government in June 2025?

I’ve read the gov press release a couple of times but I’m still a little unclear. This is an AI tutoring tool that will be used by the learner from home? They say that it won’t replace “face to face teaching” but isn’t that exactly what they are doing? Am I missing something obvious here? 🫤
