There is a difference - we don’t hold inquests in the USA that provide cause. The prosecutors serve the role of deciding if a shooting has a defense to prosecution, like fear of loss of life. USA coroners only investigate the immediate causes of the death and do not assign blame to an individual.
I deleted some of my prior replies for accuracy reasons and wanted to make it clear to any who saw them that this whole murder was awful and it saddens me that our local jurisdictions have been ineffective in getting this to trial.
