Oh I agree 100%, it was all confusing to explain and messed up so many things. I’d love for the name Captain Thunder to have been used, but if I recall correctly, Rory Thomas renewed the trademark for his own Captain Thunder not too long before then.

Yep, all policy. It was just easier to call him “Shazam” since it was on the covers of the books anyways, and since they were planning a movie, they knew that people would call him that no matter what. So it was just easier to call him “Shazam” overall
What kind of cake?

O’Toole?

Luckyyyyyyy
Heck yeah, I’d read that!
Between the lead, the psychoactive drugs he takes in this book, the binary gas he’s always breathing, him formerly smoking, AND him having lived in Hub City, it’s no shock he dies of lung cancer
Maybe Vic’s sudden shift into violent murder and execution isn’t merely the author not understanding the character and writing him more akin to Rorschach. Maybe he’s just got a serious case of LEAD POISONING.
This page from the book is immensely funny to me. Vic is wearing a lead-lined mask to prevent Superman from using X-Ray vision to find out his identity. A lead-lined mask. The mask that is incredibly thin to the point people assume he just has no face. It’s lined with lead.
Anytime : D
Shoutout to poor @judgeanon.bsky.social who had to listen to me yap as I read these books lol
The next step is to read Steve Ditko’s original stories. It was a funny observation realized what parts of Spider-Man he reused for good ole’ Vic, like the one-way lenses in the mask and Chameleon’s costume color changing gas.
(Covers continued)
What’s also funny is that with this series, I realize now that I’ve read three different Question books (I count all of what Denny O’Neil did as essentially the same series). Which makes Vic/The Question mantle one of the few characters I’ve read a good chunk of.
Oh no… I’m a fan!
The covers kick major butt though. I’d love any of them as full-sized posters or framed pictures on my wall.
Also, if you were wondering, here’s my review of the Rick Veitch/Tommy Lee Edwards The Question miniseries from 2005.
TLDR: so many great ideas that could’ve made it an all-timer but the execution is lacking hard, and it’s not satisfying as a next step for O’Neil’s Batman or as it’s own thing.
Illustration 36: logos
One thing I love doodling in my free time is character logo’s, of course Plastic Man’s being my favorite, as it allows me to be all free and flowing with the shape and size of the letters and designs
The 1st is an incorporation of both the Plastic Man and Patrick O’Brian names
Illustration 35: cover sketches
This is a sketch for the main characters of said story, which I’m hoping would be a novel. I posed for both character positions, and doing this made me think on character design and iconography, doing subsequents alterations to both of their looks.
Illustration 34: the Sisters
These two are characters from a novel I’m working on, supporting characters inspired by Oracle. The reason there’s two of them is entirely due to a joke I have about the way “data” is pronounced. The last name, Becker, is a reference to musician Walter Becker.
Illustration 33: Bat-Martha
This was the full sketch for my idea of a Martha Wayne Batwoman. A lot of things have changed, but the overall design I’m keeping, and the young Martha on the top right I quite like a lot.

Aw crud I gotta lot to catch up on. Oh well, I just won’t go in chronological order

The Question
Art I drew today of The Question aka Vic Sage, over the past 2 (or so) hours. I’ve read about three different Question runs so far, and my favorite has been the Denny O’Neil/Denys Cowan series.
“Speak to me, Metropolis” from Rick Veitch’s run is too cool a line to not use.
