JOLYON Maugham via bluesky: We hired the best lawyers, fought cases they indicated we should win, spent vast sums of money, and lost because (I believe, with reason) the judiciary (as a monolith) sits inside a transphobic hegemony. Iam afraid the law isn't coming to rescue trans people - whoever wields it

When you have a Kings Counsel saying stuff like this - I think it's time we stop relying on fighting legal battles and start using other tactics...

Personally, it is very frustrating to be proved correct. Again. I've been saying similar for years and been told I was fear-mongering and extreme. 🫠

The only purpose of the ban is to force otherwise non consenting trans minors through a research study because the NHS was concerned that insufficient patients would want to comply with their research terms. This is strong arming trans kids into research.

It’s even worse knowing that Wes actually met trans kids, listened to them cry about how awful it would be to go through the wrong puberty, how this is a lifesaving treatment, and is fucking doing this anyway

It’s even more heartless than shutting them out of conversations

Also the argument of "we have to cater to those who can't spend the effort to migrate" is self defeating.
What are they gonna do if you break API or ABI? Move to another language? They keep saying they can't even afford to change 1% of their codebase!
That's an empty threat.

My feeling about the preview of the Secret Level Armored Core short movie is that it fundamentally misses a key aspect of AC's narrative: That nobody should have a face.

safety profiles does not give that 100% guarantee. Sean's safe c++ would.

this is so frustrating. the most frustrating thing about c++ today is having a heisenbug / UB / segfault and not being able to track it down. constexpr is too restrictive to be broadly applied. UBsan, Asan, etc don't always work. I want to statically verify that a (large) piece of code is safe.

profiles does not solve the problem and is effectively vaporware, advocated for by powerful folks

safe C++ solves the problem and has a full implementation you can use right now, advocated for by a relative outsider
