An affirming article, recognising the importance of community and solidarity. I recognise that Ark, those Torah scrolls! 😊

My support of Finchley Reform Synagogue from a previous attack c/o report by @danielsugarman.bsky.social
TL;DR - lovely & welcoming people, 💯 worth supporting. As others have said: there's no you and I - only *us*

I probably met Cantor Zoe (referred to in the article) and we're lucky to have such lovely people enriching, enhancing, and co-creating our community.
Although shocking news, I'm glad everything is intact, and I hope we continue supporting one another to make a better world ✡️ 🕍
I'm a gentile and I attended a Bat Mitzvah at this synagogue (and Shabbat service the evening before), this January past. It was / is a fantastic setup and the community was delightful.
My friends' daughter was very well-supported and it was a life-enhancing weekend in many ways.

"including harmful PM10 particulates and NO2 roadside emissions as well as making our streets more beautiful and encouraging walking and cycling. Trees also create a vital habitat for London’s wildlife, reduce flood risk and help to tackle climate change through absorbing and storing carbon."
According to the Mayor London's website (admittedly on the cusp of the pandemic) www.london.gov.uk/press-releas...:
"London’s trees are estimated to provide at least £133m of benefits to Londoners every year. They help improve air quality by removing 2,241 tonnes of pollution annually..."

Brown long-eared bat in flight looking at a moth flying next to it
Bats are essential to healthy ecosystems, which agriculture needs to thrive. All 18 UK species feed on insects some of which can damage crops. Find out more: www.bats.org.uk/about-bats/w...
Pomegranates, shells, and a stag beetle because everybody had to do one of those. By Maria Sibylla Merian, whose day is today.
Yes they *are* brilliant. I listen at work to an hour-long gale in the trees in Derbyshire (I think it is). Wonderful 🤗 And there's a Lento Long of 180 minutes of Kielder Forest - you can hear the geese flying over in the night 🪿🎧
Yes to lunching - I'm on leave for ~10 days. We can chat bees too 🙏🏻🐝
This is remarkable: clear, poignant, and moving.

Photo by Matheus Viana. A lone child on a small bicycle rides along a gently sloping grassy hill, casting a long shadow on the earth below. The sky above is vast and nearly white with light, fading softly into a pale blue. The figure is silhouetted against the brilliance, tiny in contrast to the sweeping openness around them. There is no background detail—only grass, sky, and motion—evoking stillness within movement.
Life is like riding a bicycle: to keep your balance, you must keep moving.

Photo by Ricky Esquivel. A cyclist rides across a steel bridge under an intricate network of metal beams. The bridge’s shadowed understructure contrasts with the gleaming glass towers in the background, where sunlight reflects off skyscrapers lining the river. A car trails behind the cyclist, and patches of melting snow scatter across the textured road surface. The composition is a layered blend of urban grit and architectural geometry.
Be the rider. Be the bridge. Be the space between.
I read this c/o @uk.theconversation.com and found it interesting 👌🏻

I met this moth, a mottled beauty, in the rainforest yesterday, its wing colours and patterns perfect camouflage against the bark of trees like birch. Check out the exquisite frilly wing border and other details.
With the bit of spring heat, the whole ecosystem is starting to erupt into life now.

Photo by Pok Rie. Slender mangrove trees rise from the shallow waters, their exposed roots reaching into the soft waves as the tide washes over them. The setting sun casts a golden glow on the rippling surface, filtering through the branches and reflecting off the water. The sky is a blend of soft blues, oranges, and purples, while twisted, weathered roots in the foreground stand as dark silhouettes against the motion of the sea.
The deeper the roots, the stronger the tree. Unseen strength anchors all visible beauty.

Photo by Tomas Anunziata. A person stands atop a sand dune at night, illuminated by a soft glow, gazing at the star-filled sky. A streak of red and white light arcs across the sky, likely the trail of a rocket or aircraft captured with long exposure. The vast expanse of the cosmos contrasts with the solitary figure, evoking a sense of wonder and insignificance against the universe. Wisps of clouds and a faint Milky Way add depth to the celestial scene.
The nitrogen in our DNA, the calcium in our teeth, the iron in our blood, the carbon in our apple pies were made in the interiors of collapsing stars. We are made of starstuff.
