Coilbound running on Steam Deck as a native Linux build.

This week was mostly about building on Linux, using a Steam Deck as dev machine and migration to SDL3. Read all about it here: www.reddit.com/r/rogueliked...

That seems totally fair, and a good way to intersect story / lore with gameplay. Imagine for example if the tome contained a secret code necessary for unlocking a door, then it would be a different kind of game 😆

Yes, I added sorting in my game by agility rolls. It became a lot less static after that 😄👍

Nice! Are you using any kind of action execution order sorting?

The ground is covered in loot after the cat army was vanquished. Are there armour pieces designed for cats? Might not fit a regular person then.

Added more modifying consumables, modifying global parameters and custom map chunks. Full changelog here: www.reddit.com/r/rogueliked... #coilbound #screenshotsaturday

Cool! Any non-intrusive way of telling a story is fine I think, so I guess if it requires active participation to be able to sort out the gameplay then it's kind of gone too far 😆

Do these bits of story give any kind of gameplay hints? For example a deeper understanding of the lore and world might let you strategise more efficiently in some ways etc. I've been pondering what kind of relationships story and gameplay could and should have 😄

I've been off a bit this week due to Easter break, but I managed to pick some low-hanging fruit and started prepping on a few more resistances and damage types. #screenshotsaturday #coilbound

Theralite running on Steam Deck

Theralite running on Steam Deck

Seems to run pretty fine on the deck! However dpad only seems to change player direction, maybe intentional? Also, I guess there no metaprogression?

Thanks! And congrats on launch btw, I'll try to take Theralite for a spin this Easter 👍

Some UI/UX work this week including bugfixing. Also added destructible grass decorations that can hide items and other things. #screenshotsaturday #coilbound

Just in time for Easter, I've updated my iOS game EggSort with removal of ads and it will be completely free for a while. (Also, I've added a nice optional CRT filter). apps.apple.com/se/app/eggso... 🐣🐣🐣

It would be nice to find a good example of a tactical base-building game effectively utilising height levels. In my experience most such games are flat enough that you can get an overview without changing perspective, so that's probably the tradeoff.

Noticed that Xcode 26 has a new Metal debugging HUD that can be enabled in scheme diagnostics. Might be useful for performance monitoring.

This week I've worked on button bindings and glyphs. These are dynamic, so if you change bindings it will reflect in the UI, and if the gamepad is unplugged it will fallback to keyboard binding glyphs. DualShock, XBox and Steam Deck controllers will be supported. #screenshotsaturday #coilbound

I was 100% Allman when studying C++ in 2007, but after coding Java in 2009 I adopted K&R and haven’t looked back since 😄

The most striking visual change after upgrading to macOS Tahoe is that application window corners are a lot more rounded now. This scroll indicator for example is really squeezed down in the right corner. I thought I would get used to it after a while but it kind of annoys me a bit still.

Cool! As long as the retro aesthetics are really well made, it might check out fine for most players unless you have a certain ick for it (as some do, as with everything).

The best thing for me (if it's a massive hit), is that it shares an aesthetic that I very much enjoy working with, and hopefully its players would like more of. For me growing up with Game Boy it's heavy with nostalgia, but not sure how the younger generations really feel about it in general?

I've designed the game I'm working on currently with exactly this in mind; all entity actions are executed simultaneously to never block player input (except for the general tick cooldown that is).

I've been playing the PS4 version of Chocobo's Mystery Dungeon for inspiration since getting it on sale, and it's an ok game overall. What annoys me the most are all the small input delays everywhere, especially when every entity does their move in sequence. #minireview
