One thing that's really insane about this is just how little these states matter in the US's agricultural production relative to how destructive farming is there. Arizona, Utah, and Nevada — the entire states, not just CO River irrigation — produce less than 20% the agircultural output of just Iowa.
Exactly all those public AND private land ranchers in the intermountain west - who want government subsidized water and grass AND who want to exterminate everything that isn't a cow - contribute about 5% of the nation's beef. That's it. We wouldn't miss it if it was gone. One less burger a month.
