Further analyses revealed that the Category alignment effect emerged primarily in a subset of stimuli and in specific semantic categories, highlighting the limited generalizability of the effect originally reported.
The commentary shows that aligning in the Category condition is associated with longer RTs and greater variability compared to using basic labels in the Basic condition, suggesting an effortful and strategic rather than an automatic mechanism.
In the original paper, the authors provide evidence for automatic conceptual alignment, i.e., early alignment of participants’ behavior with the naming choices of the robot (using category labels instead of basic ones in the Category condition).
The paper provides theoretical and methodological contributions to the study of linguistic alignment in a joint picture naming with a social robot, by analyzing response times of an openly available dataset (Cirillo et al., 2022).
This commentary provides: 1) complementary multiverse analyses improving data interpretation, 2) practical suggestions for future experiments, 3) reflections on the importance of Open Science practices, especially for early career researchers.

The symposium will bring together early career researchers to discuss how external (others') and internal (one's own) body signals may modulate speech and auditory processing, trying to foster an integrated perspective.
My symposium proposal titled "The Body Whispering To The Ear: How Self And Others' Bodily Signals Affect Auditory And Speech Processing" has been accepted for the XV International Conference on Cognitive Neuroscience (ICON 2025), to be held in Porto in September!

A baby looked at one thing more than the other, now we know the secret to grammar. If you think about it, every language is fundamentally the same, amirite? We taught a load of undergrads a made-up language, lol. On the staggering diversity of the many languages across the world. Remember the thing you said only humans could do, here's a video of a monkey / dolphin / corvid / octopus / honeybee doing it. I trained this AI with 80 billion tweets and it became head-writer for phase 4 of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
