it exists in that no-man's land between complete ubiquity where it doesn't have to be explained and complete obscurity where nobody wants to hear the explanation, where people know just enough to understand it but not enough to have context.

as cute as the onion's infowars merch is, the problem is there's a nonzero chance while wearing it that you'd have to explain to people who are online but terminally so that, no, you're not an alex jones shithead, it's the onion, it's a parody newspaper that- forget it just assume i'm an asshole

the line between "no, this was a dignified system of checks, balances, and thoughtful interpretation of geopolitical information before He came along" and "no it's always been a bunch of morons, the idiot in charge is just addicted to his phone" is razor thin.

trump spent his first term dumbing down the state dept and term 2 gutting the military chain of command and now the room is legitimately full of idiots who thought attacking iran was going to be a 48 hour event at most. maybe we've not always been ruled by morons, but we definitely are *now*.

A pair of CBS News headlines.
Left: How Trump's messaging on Iran has shifted since saying they "agreed to everything." Less than 48 hours after President Trump said Iran has "agreed to everything," he threatened the whole country would get "blown up" without a deal soon.

Right: Iran says it has no plans to attend peace talks with U.S.

you really gotta hand it to every nation and institution that just folded and complied with this government: they were really stupid to do that. turns out we're largely impotent (well armed, but impotent)

those horrible HD sunglasses they sell to boomers via direct mail order ads and the walmart checkout are less stupid than this. you're going to get rizzed by people who inhaled lead in their gasoline.

i dont consider google to be the gold standard for "what works" under capitalism but if they couldn't make smart glasses or cloud gaming work, i don't see how anyone else is going to succeed where they failed. i seen a tiktok of some idiot with meta glasses on at wrestlemania that WWE had kicked out

in the original tomodachi life i think i kept it pretty clean and i had family members (since deceased) in it and with this new one i'm thinking i'll spare my beloved grandfather the indignity of being asked what he thinks about (frantically looking for the least bad example) shooting David Caruso

Dust has settled and the worst of this is over.

The company we were working with has removed their fans and dehumidifier, and our home doesn't sound like a datacenter anymore. All moisture levels and such are at acceptable levels, and there is no need for a flood cut. As a result, apart from the flooring (which, we hated), our finished basement is Safe. Considering I assumed the entire finished portion of the basement was going to have to be gutted, this is obviously a huge relief to our mental well being as well as our bank account.

As with anything like this, we'll mourn the loss of things we cannot replace, replace the things we need, and go "good riddance!" to the things we didn't want. We're also using this as an excuse to do a long overdue spring cleaning of otherwise unaffected areas of Haus PiB.

Our planned project this year was to do flood mitigation due to a defect of the property, and the importance of that is obviously now much clearer than it was before. Once that is done to our satisfaction, we'll look into getting carpet and vinyl flooring put back down.

But we don't need carpet to do a show.

We plan to be live Saturday April 25th and Saturday May 2nd in an amended "Live From The Bar" format, but from our upstairs living room, and we are planning to have the normal QueenPiB show resume Wednesday May 6th. As with any best laid plan it never survives an enemy encounter, so keep an eye on the Discord and other socials if there are any changes.

The rum's starting to hit so I'm going to go vibe for the rest of the evening. Thank you for your patience, and to those of you who also put tips in the jar. We'll spin all those wheels when the show is back at full strength.

i will point out for the morning crowd that if a mii on the island stares at a new person and "dreamweaver" starts playing and the mii is convinced they're in love, you can tell them "no you fucking idiot its your imagination" and there's no penalty for it, the game just treats it as first contact

I find at least half the time these accusations are thrown around, when you pull the mask off of it Scooby Doo style, it reveals "I'm upset I can't fuck this person."

woe tis I! if only there was a company that had a pair of consoles modelled after the atari 2600 and atari 7200 who met a binch at pax east who, when the dust settles, could arrange for a demonstration unit, if only that world could exist.

nah this is more "hey atari i hear you make a modern atari 2600 that takes cartridges"

Near as I can tell the only retro console we lost in the flood was the Atari 2600. I'll have to see if there's an outfit who wants to do something about that sometime, hint hint.
