I think bots are basically fictional characters. But, as mythology and fandom tend to prove, fictional characters can become very real for people. If we let them wander around the internet writing stuff like this ... ten-year-olds and the NYT are definitely going to think they're real.

Here I thought we'd hit rock-bottom when we sent our children off to school with Kevlar school bags and said, "Have a great day, honey. Don't get shot."
