For the first time in my career, I can’t tell people to trust what the CDC website says. And that is an incredibly sad and devastating place for this country to be.

Is Your Medication Made in a Contaminated Factory? The FDA Won’t Tell You. The agency’s decision to conceal drug names on inspection reports has prevented doctors, pharmacists and patients from knowing whether medications made overseas are tainted by manufacturing failures t...

One of the most widely prescribed drugs in the U.S. is the generic version of Lipitor.

FDA inspectors have found safety and quality violations at about half of the plants approved to produce it, records show.

In this case, there was no such search for the NIEHS director position. Indeed, the position was not even open (although 13 other IC director positions are with two active searches underway as far as I know). The incumbent in this position had just been reappointed. Instead, Dr. Walsh was identified because he was a buddy of the Vice President since their time together at Yale. His background and interests do not match the mission of NIEHS particularly well. As I understand it, there were even discussions to name him director of another institute, but NIEHS was selected because of its location in North Carolina where Dr. Walsh resides.

Dear Director Bhattacharya:

I saw your announcement about the appointment of Dr. Kyle Walsh as Director of the National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences. It is hard for me to express how disappointed and saddened that I am with this turn of events. This has little to do with Dr. Walsh or his qualifications. Instead, my concerns are based on the damage that this appointment, with the complete lack of any reasonable process, does to the NIH and the ability of this agency. which matters so much to the American people. to recruit and retain the best people for the 13 institute and center director positions that are now vacant.

Inside FDA, career staffers describe how political pressure is influencing their work Current and former FDA staff said the level of involvement of political officials in nitty-gritty regulatory matters is unprecedented.

Alarming report on FDA political interference. Scientists are being asked to find data supporting predetermined conclusions on autism treatments, vaccines, SSRIs - the opposite of how science works.

We need evidence-based regulation, not regulation-based evidence.

Congress could, at any time, stop this shitshow by telling Vought to end the RIFs and impoundments. It has very clear institutional reasons to do so. But obeying to Trump rules all, and instead the Speaker of the House will pretend he does not know what is happening while opining on Bad Bunny.

NIH Student Grant Cancellation Will Weaken Scientific Innovation The termination of federal F31 diversity fellowships puts many graduate students in a bind — and U.S. science at risk.

Powerful story from Olivia Lutz about the cutting of F31 diversity fellowships. NIH leadership is failing young scientists, so it's up to all of us to find ways to support them.

More of what has been lost and will be lost if the admin and supporters abandon America's commitment to science, research, and discovery.

"You’re destroying something with these draconian cuts that took years to build,” [Dr. Erbelding] said. “It can’t be rebuilt as fast as it was taken down.”

Shutdown hostage taking Russ Vought's threatens more mass firings; SCOTUS blesses his de facto impoundment

Re-upping this piece on news that Vought is firing federal employees:
*Vought lying that shutdowns compel layoffs, never have before.
*Layoffs are a choice, the shutdown is an excuse.
*Comes on top of existing RIFs, will make restoring govt services harder post-shutdown.
