Stellar Jay seen by me and @sallyfisherprice.bsky.social in the moss-covered branches of a tree at Silver Falls. A rare contemplative mood for this hyperbolic beast.

Birding in the rain yesterday at Powell Butte, with @sarahlovesbirds.bsky.social. Considering you can see the rain in the first photo, these are pretty good shots!
I run everything I do past coyotes, for sure.
My most noir novel.
"I first saw the apple fritter there in the 70s as a beat cop, while I was high. We talked a little, asked if it wanted me to drive outta the rain. But I'll never forget what it said. 'It'll pass, Dave. It'll always pass. And we'll still be right here.' Still think about that, every day of my life."

Grey water, grey sky and clouds, and a bridge in the distance.
Sure. I just don't think of fiction that way so can't be more helpful.

Loving it so far! So smart!
Good interview here with Miriam Horn about the book, including some excellent photos: news.mongabay.com/2026/04/how-...
Cover of Homesick for an Unknown World. Title in large beige letters against a black background. Subtitle: The Life of George B. Schaller over a photograph of Schaller atop a mountain with a giant yellow backpack, looking across a wide expanse of blue valley, mountains, and sky. Byline Miriam Horn below.
I've been looking forward to this book for years now, ever since first learning that Miriam Horn was working on a biography of my dear friend Eric's dad. A quick perusal shows it was worth the wait.
We hear a lot about how the nonhuman world is fragile. With so many species on the brink, I understand that. But, in fact, the nonhuman world is incredibly resilient. It is just under an onslaught by humans unlike anything in the history of the planet. Trillions of organisms obliterated every year.
Beef season 2 was a hot mess and not nearly as good as the first season. But entertaining. Once the blocking became erratic, it became clear it was more thrown together, more mechanical.

Infiltration and subversion are sapping and impurifying all of our precious bodily fluids. A foreign substance is introduced into our precious bodily fluids without the knowledge of the individual.
When I looked back after booking it I saw that it was a kid of 10 who was laughing his ass off and holding the flashlight that had accentuated the effect. Oh, Portland. 2/2

Last night while taking my evening constitutional, I had just passed the bene jesuit school when I looked toward the house to my left only to see a face giving me a wide demonic smile that jolted me to my core. A frozen rictus with just a head and neck perescoping above window frame. 1/2
i don't think fiction works that way but many of these are not Road dire.
