AI is going to "take all our jobs" but companies are still paying people to do silly stuff like make this app so how true could that really be

The epistemology of Big Journalism says only the perpetrator can be believed, and only if they say exactly what they did/do aloud, and even still their words can only be quoted, not paraphrased. Ugh.
Avoiding "who accused" and "accuser" as identifiers has been standard issue decency in journalism for a while. Except at the NYT I guess.
She reportedly parted ways with Bezos with a jaw-dropping $38.3 billion in Amazon stock. Their divorce settlement included a 4 % stake in the online retail giant or 19.7 million shares. Under the agreement, Bezos kept 75% of the couple's Amazon stock, along with voting control of her shares. Jan 11, 2023
MacKenzie Scott has given away over $19 billion in the last 5 years and experts say she's 'changed entire fie... MacKenzie Scott acknowledged another $2 billion in donations as 2024 comes to a close.
MacKenzie Scott, worth $41.1 billion, is on a philanthropic tear and has donated an estimated 46% of her net worth.
Just to give a sense of the insane scale of billions of dollars…MacKenzie Scott got about $38 billion after divorcing Bezos in 2019. She has become the world’s most generous philanthropist, giving away over $19 billion…and she’s currently wealthier than she started.
Just. Tax. Them.
A very astute (and upsetting!) piece that touches on four scary cultural trends: 1) The demand for spelled-out moral clarity in stories 2) A growing inability to understand different types of narratives 3) The "customer's always right" version of fandom 4) The growth of fandom as a social identity.
YIKES
In a story about the unavoidable bias baked into AI products...
"all twenty participants interviewed said they preferred using AI over going directly to a news publisher, partly because they believed AI tools to be less biased."

A better way to reframe this is "most job growth is in sectors that have historically been dominated by women workers. These roles are gendered & devalued, often seen as un-masculine, as they often entail care provision or provision of social services."
Water in the glass that you're drinking: drips, sips at most, barely enough to quench your thirst
Water in the glass once the cat has spilled it, somehow:
Even if there was, journalists couldn't use it to describe these actions unless every member of SCOTUS said out loud that they felt that way. 🤦
Man, I wish there was a term to describe people who are against women or against people of color.
Or maybe a term to describe someone who thinks their faith is something to impose on an entire country. Or that they think their demographic is superior type of human.
Oh well.
Also colleges restructured the way they function in response to the last waves of protests. My niece’s college did all they could to ensure no large groups could gather on campus for any purpose. Meetings / gatherings for organizing shut down. Kids punished academically.
Boston Globe mock front page from April 9, 2016. Date says April 9, 2017, with giant headline “DEPORTATIONS TO BEGIN” and “Markets sink as trade war looms.”
Ten years ago today, in April 2016, the Boston Globe printed a satirical front page imagining a future Trump administration. The page was called "alarmist," "hyperbolic," "dystopian." But we’ve put up with so much since then it now looks like . . . a slow Thursday?
Putting aside Sam Altman just continuing to emit huge lies constantly, this is an amazing example of what I mean when I talk about how GenAI is replacing *extremely low energy* digital tasks with *WAY WAY HIGHER ENERGY* replacements that *do not even work*
Why TF is anyone using ChatGPT as a timer!
a “ceasefire” that lasted 17 hours and killed 254 people in lebanon is not a ceasefire and referring to it as one is inaccurate
Trump "Truth": The alleged Statement put out by CNN World News is a FRAUD, as CNN well knows. The false Statement was linked to a Fake News site (from Nigeria) and, of course, immediately picked up by CNN, and blared out as a “legitimate” headline. The Official Statement by Iran was just released, and posted on TRUTH, below. Authorities are looking to determine whether or not a crime was committed on the issuance of the Fake CNN World Statement, or was it a sick rogue player? CNN is being ordered to immediately withdraw this Statement with full apologies for their, as usual, terrible “reporting.” Results of the investigation will be announced in the near future. President DONALD J. TRUMP
White House Rapid Response account: "ATTENTION @cnni : As @POTUS just said, Iran’s official statement is linked in his TRUTH below AND posted by the Iranian foreign minister. This alleged statement by “Iran” is a FRAUD! Correct immediately!" [Photo of CNN story citing "a statement from Iran's Supreme National Security Council report by Iranian state media."
Brendan Carr tweet: More outrageous conduct from CNN. Fake news is bad enough for the country, but pushing out a hoax headline in such a sensitive national security moment as this requires accountability. Iran put out an official statement that simply cannot be squared with the one CNN's false headline attributes to them. Time for change at CNN.
Iran's PressTV Twitter account: Supreme national security council: Iran achieved historic victory by forcing criminal US to accept its 10-point plan.
The President, White House, and FCC's Brendan Carr are calling for action -- and implying a criminal investigation -- against CNN for... accurately reporting what Iran's state media shared as a statement from Iran's Supreme National Security Council.
I genuinely can't stop thinking about the Iranian kids who spent yesterday wondering if they were all going to die and what that day will do to them for the rest of their lives.
I know curating a home/frontpage is hard work and the context collapse of the internet + feeding the beast means sometimes very different topics get accidentally and awkwardly juxtaposed.
But COME ON ARE YOU KIDDING ME RIGHT NOW
In Korea, when the president declared martial law after midnight and erected barricades in Seoul, congressional reps from all parties ran into the streets, yanked ak47s from the army at the barricades, broke down the locked door to Congress, repealed the martial law order, and arrested the president
I know a lot of our political press corps think of themselves as critical of Trump but they are as much a pillar of his cult as his actual supporter base, because they continuously reinforce the main tenet of Trumpism, that only Trump and his will matters, and our job is to watch him make decisions.
This should be the lead headline on every news website. Trump threatens to destroy "entire country".
This headline is part of what is wrong with #journalism right now “experts say” sets this up as a debate when there is none: states, not the president, run elections per the Constitution, which is freely available to read online and via apps Stop hedging on facts… #2026Midterms
How did someone write "The Next Generation Emerges" above the picture of literally the most recent Dem prez candidate with a straight face.
They're looting the federal government
The IOC has announced a trans and intersex athlete ban requiring an invasive SRY genetic test for female athletes.
In the 20+ years trans women were eligible, only one ever competed and none ever medaled. This is solving for a problem that doesn't exist.

Happy for all you baseball fans out there... I'll just be here... watching my Sixers... falling for another great return-from-injury from Joel... at the end of a season where we're barely over .500...
the funniest part is 'writing clear instructions' already existed as a skill. we just gave it a STEM title and suddenly it needs a bootcamp
It bothers me that the phrase is "prompt engineering" instead of "prompt writing" because tech bro culture requires everything sound cooler/more technical than it is.
& it sounds "cooler" because "hard"/STEM/male-coded skills are valued more than "soft"/comms/female-coded skills, per usual
Recently, the person in front of me in line for coffee at my South Philly corner store said re: taxes, "I don't have kids, why should I care about the schools?" Ugh.
