Had a blast at Mystery Wrestling 24! Worth the drive. Aubrey reffing the "falls count somehow" match between Cecil Nyx and ELP was probably my favorite part.

The bar even had NA beer for me! 🤍

YES! Critical thinking! Exactly.

In GATE class, we had a silly tradition of bringing in clippings of advertisements to discuss and dissect. We'd have had a field day with today's aspirational ads. This toothpaste will give you that lifestyle! ... okay, but does it prevent cavities? 🤭

I was allowed to watch or read almost anything, provided she watched or read it first and we could talk about it.

I saw "Song of the South" in a theater; the dinnertime talk was fascinating and I'm not racist.

I am so grateful to her and her friends from all over the planet. So many perspectives.

When I was growing up and asked my mom a question she didn't know the answer to, she'd march me into the library to find the answer.

Nowadays, we'd probably Google it and discuss everything we found. Imagine all the cool topics we'd cover.

I blame my habit of buying and reading books I don't agree with for my ex-husband's slide into right-wing politics. I should have left Hitch on the toilet instead.

Tik Tok is a joy. I feel confident that the future's in good hands, for now. Systems thinking is useful. But make your kids readers.

(Suffice to say that I forgive corporations too much and just remember my own unimportantance.)

At work, I often take the forgotten literature out of our device boxes and read that over my lunch.

I mean... we're installing it; shouldn't we understand it?

Multiple times, my precocious little ass asked pediatricians questions about things I read in my prescriptions' literature. I corrected teachers and to this day, I read everything I sign, whether it's a EULA or a TOS or a form. Pity my realtor.

Moral of the story: make your kids readers! It's the most important thing you can do, I think.

... but be prepared for them to READ.

I've never told my mom about this early memory: I'm eating a cookie in my lawyer dad's office. A fax comes in while they're out of the room, and I read it. It was details of how we thought HIV spread at the time.

I was a little science nerd, but I was so confused.

Black Strap Molasses
Black Strap Molasses YouTube video by Groucho Marx - Topic

Health food crazes have always been ridiculous.

1951. Jane Wyman, Jimmy Durante, Groucho Marx, Danny Kaye.

Fun trivia: some radio stations banned this song, thinking it was plugging molasses or Hadacol (a popular vitamin drink; it was 12% alcohol).

For the folks in sane countries: that means I can't see a doctor. I have been using PlushCare for emergencies and prescriptions (also met a nice doctor there, who I can hopefully see in person someday) rather than paying $1K a month for COBRA coverage, since I'm mostly healthy.

I have so many things to do piled up and I'm stressed as fuck, but I promise I'll be a better excuse for a person this week. Documentation here will help. Hi.

And before anyone asks: no, I can't go to therapy. I am uninsured. Thank the government for pulling the plug on so many projects.

Neither are dinner alone-- japchae is a party dish one wouldn't typically eat a big bowl of, and the jangtteok is usually a side dish with rice, but together, they feel like a square (if ugly) meal.

I should do this more often.

My perilla plants were overgrown, inviting, minty-crisp... I didn't want to waste the surplus, so I bought a little beef and made kkaennip-jangtteok and japchae for dinner.

Sometimes it's hard to cook.

It's weird to remember that I cooked every day when I was married. It's a lot of work and mess for just one person, even if I eat leftovers the next day or freeze portions. I waste more ingredients than I'd like; I just get tired or forget. Depression makes it worse.
