Walking through Target earlier and saw this board game design kit in the kids activities section and bought it out of curiosity. Shocked to find a sheet with decent advice on ideation, prototyping and playtesting in this $12 box of bits. 🎲✂️

A 2-star review of Wrong Station that reads: Its got to be difficult to hold to a very high standard of quality year-in and year-out. And for years you guys pulled it off. Of late, I'm worried. The endless 10-year retrospective navel-gazing exercise foisted on listeners after months of a very loooong summer off was a big ask, and not what we came here for. Long breaks, lower-quality material, and excuses are bad signs. Thirteen and Ghost in the Burbs lost me this way, and I don't want that to happen at the Wrong Station too."

Just saw this 2-star review someone left for the show and initially it annoyed me. But now, I'm realizing it's an exceptional example of what consumerism has done to the arts and those who consume them. I want to point out a couple of things.

Heard about @buttonshy.bsky.social’s 18 Card Cozy Game Challenge and figured I’d throw a prototype together.
My current idea is a simple drafting game where you play as siblings stuck inside on a rainy day watching people walk by the windows. Still figuring it out but I think I like it?🤔 🎲✂️

A big wooden table where 3 players are removing plastic gems from gold mint tins and adding them up for scoring. Each player has three face up scoring cards in front of them. There’s a small notebook and pen in the corner. One player is using their phone to add up points.

Got great feedback on my loot-splitting game the other night. Scoring is broken but the basic loop is fun. Excited for the next playtest 🎲✂️

Need to test with more than 2 players to see if it works but I’m definitely preferring this super light area control version over the previous set collection version.

Decided to take points out of my wip theme park game. Currently you roll and place dice to snag the first ride of each attraction which places you on the board. Win conditions include being the first to visit each area, ride all the rides in one area or ride four connected rides. 🎲✂️

Well the game seems to work somewhat so ultimately productive!

Currently this is a game about about riding theme park rides. It’s sort of dice placement/drafting game where your goal is to claim the first ride on as many unique rides as you can.
