crush your enemies, see them driven before you, and hear the lamentations of their consultants

I'll just take this moment to point out that the US Institute of Peace, just a few weeks ago, contained one of the finest concentrations of US expertise on India and Pakistan, and crisis management in South Asia.
"If you wanted to raise families’ energy bills, getting rid of the ENERGY STAR label would be a pretty good way." Our response to reports today that EPA may end the ENERGY STAR program.
There are 32m small businesses in the USA
This is part of what’s so insane. As they talk about re-shoring and manufacturing they are actively trying to destroy an entire us manufacturing industry that already exists.
I miss Bidenomics
You have to see this.
PoliticsGirl and her husband teamed up with the brilliant Timothy Snyder (author of On Tyranny) and the legendary John Lithgow to create something truly powerful. It’s important, it’s urgent—and it needs to be shared far and wide.
Yawn
Top tier ear game! Congrats
In some countries this position is known as a Political Officer.
Nice! Makes me glad to already be a paying subscriber too!
Shutting down Mauna Loa CO₂ observations while atmospheric CO₂ keeps skyrocketing is like turning off a fire alarm because you don’t like the noise

This is horrible to post, but I may as well post it. We are essentially shutting down research operations in my group, which is focused on treatments for pediatric brain cancer. I’m a well funded investigator, and there’s no choice. Science can’t function without the stability of NIH
"forced discrimination programs" = EPA programs that made it slightly more difficult for industry to turn Black neighborhoods like Pleasantville in Houston or Africatown in Mississippi into cancer havens polluted with unregulated toxic waste
That’s right. 🇺🇦
In an episode that highlights how cursory and haphazard their efforts appear to have been, Marocco and Rubio ordered the cancellation of contracts, including for cellphone service, at an office they do not control. The move stranded people in war zones without phones, according to multiple officials and internal correspondence obtained by ProPublica. On Wednesday, AT&T received a termination notice for a $430,000 contract with USAID’s Office of Inspector General. That office is meant to be independent from USAID so that it can effectively audit the agency.
There's much more in this piece abt Marco Rubio getting USAID contractors robbed, but he also cut off USAID Inspector General's phone.

Colorado's Rep Brittany Pettersen (D) flew cross-country with her one-month-old to vote against the GOP budget tonight. Dems ended up one vote short. Pettersen was part of an unsuccessful bipartisan push to allow new mothers to vote remotely. #copolitics
ICYMI, last week we published an interactive map of more than $300 billion worth of Inflation Reduction Act and bipartisan infrastructure law funding. Enter your ZIP code or city and a search radius and find projects in your area:

I honestly believe our most powerful position in a toxic time that feeds on cynicism, apathy,& despair is to genuinely care and act for a better world.
Cynicism is our enemy. We should check it, incl. on the left. It’s not intellectually superior. It’s the virus they’re trying to infect us with. NO

This handbasket seems more congenial than the other ones on the same trip so far
He's not a (D) democrat, he's a chump libertarian sellout. At least the charade is over.
