gets you like that. wanting to compose and get the 1:100000000 perfect shot 🤣 unlike some who seem to achieve it with ease - no names
photos great
Bernwood SSSI is not to be. NE lacking. So disappointed. much effort over 10yrs. so much for govt commitment to nature when it really matters. the redesignation wouldn’t impact on growth but would strength how SSSI’s are managed for rare species that are actually there. why @tonyjuniper.bsky.social
We've streamlined this process and you can download a spreadsheet outlining all the content required here: www.bats.org.uk/roost-case-studies .
You can browse for other case studies, including our previous two winners, in the above link too!
The BCT Roost Awards are a timely reminder of how important it is to demonstrate good practice & what works. when it comes to dealing with protected species at this time when Govt seems focused on its growth agenda & reducing the burden of protecting our Biodiversity needs you
Great watching our young ecologist deliver and take part in Great crested newt training at our Swanbourne office near Milton Keynes.Lots of laughs with compulsory dunkings & much learned. Training future generations to help with informing the decision making process must be part of the growth agenda
Alarm clock
Time for annual review of Countryside Stewardship agreements, grant claims and catching up with old friends and wonderful landscapes like the Chilterns. Much has been achieved and making plans for lost saracen stones. All under their own steam

I had assumed the large hard spines (defensive?) on their legs made them less palatable to predictors such as bats but only guessing
Finally out. New paper Full pelage Ultra-Violet fluorescence occurs in both lesser horseshoe bat, Rhinolophus hipposideros & Blasius's horseshoe bat R. blasii www.italian-journal-of-mammalogy.it/Full-pelage-...

Glow up! A European team of bat researchers led by VWT's former Head of Conservation, Henry Schofield — with biologists from Pells Frischmann and Croatian Biospeleological Society — discovered that lesser horseshoe bats glow all over in UV. Find out how this can help monitoring tinyurl.com/bdd8jc5n
Rare bats and biodiverse woodland cannot simply be moved, whatever the UK government claims. What should have moved in the HS2 debacle was the route of the line. I wonder why major construction companies preferred to propose a £100M tunnel instead? 🤔 💷🦇🦤. @craigbennett3.bsky.social
Serotine. One of my favourite #bats! I have a PhD available, using new methods to find serotine roosts and understand movement patterns. Will help to develop a rabies vaccination strategy: a priority for people and bats! Pls share! www.surrey.ac.uk/bbsrc-wessex... @batconservation.bsky.social 🦤🌍🦇

We all need a winter retreat from doom and gloom. Myotis myotis #bats in Poland enjoying a huddle in deep winter hibernation deep inside WW2 tunnels
i wonder how many built structures with underground / subterranean features up and down the country are used as swarming sites and we just don’t know they are ??? Need a national inventory and assessment (working on an idea)
amazing what structures are used for swarming across the country. need to get a better broader understanding of swarming sites
