Thanks for flagging this. It really makes you think.
This is brilliant stuff. A reasoned explanation of the importance of knowledge in supporting reading. And some thoughts about why a shift to a knowledge curriculum will take time to be revealed in “results”.
As a regular marker/feedback giver of adult learners’ work, I found this a very helpful and “resetting” read. I need to keep keeping in mind how feedback receivers *feel* on receipt of my feedback.
Yikes. Let’s resist cognitive surrender.
Quotation from Ogle, J., Vincent, S., & Hawkes, M. (2022): If we seriously mean to improve the life conditions of children we must, as a minimum precondition, establish reporting systems in which they are heard themselves as well as reported on by others (Qvortup, 1990, p. 94)
We were looking today in a session at @suedpsy.bsky.social at eliciting and reporting child voice. This quote really struck home hard.
Eliciting ≠ reporting ≠ hearing ≠acting.

The poster outlines that this is a survey looking at AI use within practice and is led by trainees from the University of Southampton.
Southampton trainees are inviting you, as an EP or TEP wherever you work, to participate in a study investigating the use of GEN AI within Educational Psychology. It is a short survey. Please follow the link for more information. Please retweet 🙏 Thank you!

❇️New episode - War and Children
Content warning - this episode talks in depth about the effects of war on children
It's an exceptionally tough listen, but we think it's important to bear witness to this, and think about how we can respond

A bright, colourful illustration with a rainbow gradient background. A spotted Dalmatian stands on a grassy hill surrounded by sparkles. Above the dog, bold text reads “I am not sure how yet but I will.” At the bottom, the words “The Dalmatian of determination” are written. The artwork is playful and uplifting, with warm tones and a sense of optimism. Picture by Katie Abey.
“You don’t have to see the whole staircase, just take the first step.” Martin Luther King Jr.
Not knowing how doesn’t mean we won’t get there. We will, even when the path isn’t clear yet.
One step, then another. 🧡

In this personal and reflective piece Minoushe connects the personal to the professional and political.
She explores biculturalism, identity and a call to recognise that we cannot claim to be neutral in our practice.

A risk of a non-nuanced growth mindset understanding:
“Failure becomes a moral issue”.
"For those of us who spend our lives thinking about belonging, connection and the human experience of education, this is perhaps the central tension of the AI age." A powerful piece.
Virginia Braun's perspective on engaging (or not!) with AI in qual research youtu.be/3zFQC3c-eQk?...
Great to see this.
Silicon Valley tech bros misunderstand what knowledge is.
They put a primacy on ‘output’ whilst massively undervaluing ‘process’ and, in doing so, generate vast swathes of useless and harmful content.
Good to see some pushback.
Thank you @edpsy.bsky.social ❤️ for providing me with the space to reflect on something that I feel so passionately about 💕

A colourful illustration by Katie Abey showing a bright, expressive owl surrounded by vibrant flowers and leaves in pink, yellow, green and blue. The owl has wide eyes and a slightly frazzled but gentle expression, representing the “Owl of Overwhelm.” The tone of the artwork is playful and reassuring, offering a reminder to go easy on yourself and be kind to yourself when life feels like a lot. Picture by Katie Abey.
“The time to relax is when you don’t have time for it.” Sydney J. Harris
Feeling a little overwhelmed?
Life can be wonderful and complicated all at once.
Go easy on yourself. A pause, a breath, a moment to reset can help.

Oh dear me. Having found nothing, they pin hope on a result that is significant “before adjusting for multiple comparisons”. People: this adjustment is not optional. It’s clear nobody will ever give up on this quest.
