Occasionally, I'll do dry runs, spending a week living out of a travel backpack or suitcase at home as if I were traveling. It helps me dial in my ever-changing one-bag travel sets.

These days, I almost never carry American money on me; however, whenever I go abroad, I always keep $50-$100 USD equivalent of the local currency on me.
