LMFAO *the Beatles of indie rock* is an incredible concept, sure, the Beatles of bands that didn't sell records, why not

HED: Charli xcx’s Brat movie marks the moment the mockumentary died BYLINE: Zach Schonfeld
Good morning. I wrote an essay for The Guardian about the mediocre state of the mockumentary. I argue that the stagnation of the mockumentary genre mirrors the decline of the celeb documentary itself—both now feel like boring, legacy-building exercises: www.theguardian.com/film/2026/ap...

Re-watched ALTERED STATES (Criterion Blu-Ray) tonight. What a hilariously bonkers movie that is. The only Ken Russell anything I can make it all the way through. Paddy Chayefsky was obviously the proto-Sorkin in that every character is just him monologuing behind a mask. It rules.

A cartoon of an anthropomorphic incinerator, the machinery’s mouth a jagged line of demonic teeth. The incinerator is labeled DANGER. Clouds of smoke waft from the flue stack. It’s a cartoon, yet…you look down at your hands and see they’re covered with ash. The floor too. You feel the ash on your tongue, acrid and gritty. Everything you see, everything you taste, everything you know is dusted in ash.

TFW one of your favorite ambient artists of all time (CFCF) has morphed into a drum-n-bass maestro, a nostalgic electronica interloper, and now, an alt-pop aggro player? He remains ENDLESSLY fascinating.
