Now I take a page from the writing of Mel Baggs and use the word "conspicuous"
I am "less conspicuous" perhaps, but my function is variable & not always subject to objective outward signs
a child or adult in a group home may be MORE conspicuous BUT who knows! could function just as well or better!
Criminal Minds requires behavioural profiling to be effective, and for serial killers to be prevalent enough that the BAU have a significant caseload, but it also doesn't have the courage to consider how a world in which those things are true would be fundamentally different to our own.
But the problem for Criminal Minds is that as an American police procedural, it is fundamentally chained to the real world. Things need to behave, as much as possible, like the real world does.
And, uh, serial killers are not actually nearly that prevalent in the real world.

I'll say again: I miss having an FTC that might at least *try* to challenge shit like this wb/Paramount merger. And not just because paramount/skydance is fully captured by authoritatian bootlickers, either. Monopolies are bad! Bad for "consumers," & bad for creativity & stories & culture all around
Though important to note that @drmbothapsych.bsky.social says a huge problem is that autistic people are never allowed to just be. And one of the most profound things we can do is provide autistic people space to just be, so they can follow their internal compass, and live well.

STARTS believes that expertise stemming from lived experience matters, especially in mental health and wellbeing.
The problem with much wellbeing research is that neurotypical expectations are prioritized, when in fact autistic goals are not necessarily the same.

If we don't improve medical care for autistic people, and believe and accommodate them, we will be doing nothing to decrease diminished autistic life expectancy.

Results: Autistic patients often came out with poorer health than they arrived with.
Often were made to doubt their own bodies and experiences, from an early age. Even when they didn't, they had barriers such as communication. And THEN would get dismissed by practitioners' prejudices.

When Indian autistic youth felt that they were drowning, they clung to their sense of their own good morals, and this helped keep them afloat.
Conclusion: Masks are socially reinforced and contextual, but can lead to poor mental health outcomes. The balance is not worth it.

The problem is that the Indian autistic "good kid" was imploding, and often no one noticed. They were often distressed and emotionally drowning.
Isolation became an escape, a protective mechanism. They also coped through sensory strategies, focusing on special interests.

Parkrun is so committed to being non-competitive that if you run fast enough they won’t post your results online. There is literally nothing at stake but your own personal satisfaction in running.

Deep-dive on recent slam of Kennedy's use of Medicare/Medicaid extortion to bully hospitals out of GAC by judge. He did _not_ stay his ruling as is customary pending the govt's inevitable appeal, finding HHS action was not just wrong but illegal.
As a family violence researcher, this approach to protecting kids from the games of social media makes me very nervous. “Families” are often sites of violence that cause harm, too.
"In a post on X, Blanche announced that he was “immediately rescheduling FDA-approved marijuana and state-licensed marijuana from Schedule I to Schedule IIl” and calling for expedited hearings to “fully reschedule marijuana.”"
I'm just shocked that it took so long for people to clue in that someone who intentionally called himself MrBeast was maybe not the best person.
Autistic Indian youth, once they were older, they wanted social connections, but what they got were superficial connections that were not reciprocal. And bullying, and physical abuse, and other forms of victimization including romantic heartbreak.

Bullying can be overwhelming, even when not active, it can lead to negative and intrusive thoughts that they can't shut off. Resolution can include things like leaving school, enabling more autonomy with purposeful coping.
