California is importing refined products from abroad just as the Iran war tightens global crude oil supplies. Fuel made from Russian oil is surging into the state, even though such sales are used to finance that nation’s ongoing war with Ukraine.

Hero rat who sniffed out over 100 land mines is honored with giant statue “Magawa was one of the best rats we’ve ever had,” said Michael Raine, who works for Apopo, a nonprofit that trains animals to detect land mines.

Magawa, an African giant pouched rat, sniffed out more than 100 land mines during his five-year career as a mine-detector in Cambodia.

To honor his bravery, a seven-foot statue of him was recently unveiled. Magawa died in 2022, but his legacy lives on.

The Clear Horizons & Emissions Codification Act died on the New Mexico Senate floor when seven Democratic senators joined all of the minority Republican caucus to kill it. While several Democrats spoke in favor of the bill, also known as SB18, Not one person spoke against it, a hint that the vote was decided before the February 11 hearing began.

In a later interview, bill sponsor Mimi Stewart said Republicans didn't fight the climate bill that day because, "they didn't need to. They could jsut wait for the seven Democrats that voted with them."

The last three years were not jsut the hottest on record, they were even warmer than the historic warming trend would predict. Some scientists are saying that if an El Niño sets up in the Pacific Ocean next year as expected, 2027 could be warmer still.
