It isn't a perfect organization by any means, but as the retired Army NCO in the article stated, scout troops do a lot of good on military bases and are a large passive recruitment vehicle for the armed services. This move is short sighted, idiotic and gross.

My first job out of HS was for the local BSA council. I grew up with 3 generations of Eagle Scouts (Gramp, Dad, uncle, brothers). Both my parents volunteered with local troops for years. My sister worked at a scout camp. Scouting is in my blood.

FYI Secretary Stupid, Co-ed Programs have existed within Scouting America since the mid 1960s and adult women have served in leadership and volunteer roles across the organization since 1970 (not simply as "Den Mothers" for Cub Scouts). Girls have been in Scouting longer than you have been alive.
