Sure, you can do gravity assists and meander your way to the sun. But direct? Phew. That’s a different story

Unrelated but, I—unironically—register the day that I learned/worked out how much fuel/energy it takes to *actually* launch something from surface of the earth into the sun as the day I reached “adulthood”

Right well I guess I should try and get off this depression spiral by going into the sun 🫠

Like via going outside not like, in a rocket

Epilogues are unnecessary. I've never read an epilogue that felt like it added value. Waste of time

Okay, but Functions of Feelings is a damn good band name.

I'll be doing a podcast with Anders Hejlsberg, the creator of Turbo Pascal, C#, and TypeScript.

Neither side dares claim victory, instead they are content to just lob axioms at each other across the no man’s land of social media, like chemical warfare in the trenches of Great War Germany.

Salting the earth, until nothing but ash remains

Every single cultural touchpoint and nuanced experience now needs to be litigated in the specter of the public forum until only two factions are left standing, ever-locked in an unending, war-of-attrition of absolutism.

The fast-foodification of culture (and distinct subcultures) across the board is pretty bleak right now

It felt like with the infinite space of the internet, we would have avoided this, created infinite space for every niche to thrive. Instead we constructed culture wide thunderdome.

Everything terrible and horrible about the modern web as a platform is self inflicted bullshit.

The knowledge of this will haunt me the rest of my days.

People vaugeposting about “the dumpster fire” and not me trying to figure out if they are talking about the couple dozen that I’m aware of, or if there’s a new dozen or so that just sprang up

I know this isn’t a foodie account, but I do A LOT of cooking. I’ve been the main cook in every house I’ve lived in since I was about 15. Here’s my chewy granola recipe that I eat almost every day. No processed sugar and can be easily made w/ GF oats. Let me know if you make it!

This must be a really exciting time for the “moon-landing was a hoax” crowd right now. Imagine being on the breaking edge of inventing a new conspiracy theory/coverup for an event more recent than 1972!

“I don’t know if that’s enough to save our species but they are pretty great. You should give em a try”

There would have been a point in time where if approached by a superior alien species and asked to justify our species in the expanse of the cosmos, I would have reached for the humanities and human expression on creativity.

Today, I think I’d say “we figured out cheese, and bread, and cider.”

I find it shockingly irreconcilable that in the age of mass LLM scraping happening across the internet that sites still try to block regular humans from trying to right-click/context menu save-as images from websites.

Absolute insanity levels of irreconcilable.

My old man shouting at clouds mood that I will carry to the grave: the GameCube controller layout is scientifically verifiable to be the best controller layout ever constructed.

So, I've made a multi-threaded Monte-Carlo raytracer with diffuse, metallic, and transparent materials...

...in my own programming language 🤪

It's all fairly basic (no BVH or MIS, the compiler is arm64 only & doesn't optimize anything), but I'd still call it a huge success!

time to ignore the entire internet for the next 24-36 hours.

Sometimes, I kinda wish that we just let Aprils Fools Day die in a fire in the mid-90s.... At this point, with the state of the world, is there really any value in randomly griefing random people on the internet as a *holiday*?!

Is Andy Weir going on his own OSC arc right now? Cause this definitely feels like the unhinged preliminaries that precede some absolutely *wild* revelations.

i feel like people who are in favor of age verification are traitors to humanity

3 days ago 321 77 6 5

Age verification is not going to protect kids, it is going to expose even more private data to these corporations and endanger everyone to fraud and data breaches.

This is bullshit, don't fall for it. There are a ton of things they could do that do not endanger us, but hold the corporations liable

Feeling very discomforted by the fact that is 2026 the popular discourse is that “Star Trek” is supposed to be about starship battles and laser fights, while Star Wars fans continue their decades-long “purity” inquisition without a X-Wing battle in sight.
