Open question for the community:

Idealistically, how SHOULD this have worked? What is the right way for this app to respond when racism shows up? How can we do better? What tools and actions are missing?

This keeps me up at night. Maybe my open source bones are getting old. I don’t have an answer.

In other news since I’m back on social for a total of 5 minutes. I climbed the Kautz on Tahoma a few weeks ago. It was great to do some exposed ice climbing at elevation again. Great to see my favorite mountain again. And most importantly great to see Charlie. 🐾

I know they heard my concerns and they are taking this very seriously. I did everything in my power to convey strong urgency and encourage action towards rebuilding trust and establishing community feedback loops. I want them to fix this, and I trust them to do so.

Thanks for the emails and rightful concerns of racism/mod issues at bluesky. Would have missed this.

Had a call with bluesky leaders and shared my collective experience at Hachyderm, Nivenly, and transwoman in tech. I reminded them the importance of community and dangers in letting racism fester.
