I stopped trusting that people were smart and would do the smart thing a long time ago.

Why are you even surprised? This is basic cause and effect; a preacher gets killed, their sins get forgotten because of the weight of the tragedy and people feel like someone's trying to kill them. I'm tempted to say NOT doing this would be insane.

Topic: "Huh, electric cars aren't doing well in America"
Initial comment: "TRUMP IS BAD"
Me: wondering why I'm even on here
Maybe I'm just a different type of person who eschews ethos and pathos for logos when it comes to debates (people really question what the hard sciences and mathematics bring to the table), but I am questioning this... and somewhat alarmed by the implications.
Fair enough, I just read your quote and assumed that it meant you agreed with it. (I would like to add that I think people should be able to be trusted to deal with extremism on social media, and probably should be trusted to do it when able.)
Instead, you... become a martyr? That's kinda what's happening here.
Weird that people believed a laughing stock, but sure.
Also, while we know little about the shooter and its motives, we know about everyone celebrating his death and basically asking for America to stay divided.
OK, so are you arguing that social media stuff should be restricted (your first reply to me) or that they shouldn't (the original post)? I'm genuinely confused if you're doing anything other than picking a fight with the nearest person.
If that was the case, then he could have been demolished in an actual debate and be left a laughing stock.
"Kirk would agree these platforms should not be regulating people’s free speech." - you
For all the claims he's said bad things, I've yet to see someone accept burden of proof and actually find a particularly bad thing he's said. As someone who was called a pedophile for wondering why someone was insulting RFK Jr with no provocation, I'm skeptical.
Free speech shouldn't be regulated, but social media shouldn't be everyone insulting everyone all the time. Just because it's not illegal, it doesn't mean it's a nice thing to say.
I'm alarmed at the replies here. Let's just stop trivializing political assassinations, it was bad when it happened to the Democrats and it's bad when it happens to the conservatives.
Hey, the last time I was on here I asked why people were just insulting RFK Jr and what it would do, and was called a pedophile in return. As far as I am concerned, you're either a butthurt liberal or a bot, and the same applies to you.
It's alarming that the Democrats have made Trump look like a viable candidate... but yeah, you guys really need to sort out that issue. (I'm not American!)
In all seriousness, the main museum closest to me has a permanent exhibit about the future (that gets more and more dated by the year) and regular exhibits about the near future.
I think I met you on here before... then again, it feels like 90% of people on here share three braincells, all of them trying to use every opportunity to make a dumb joke about Republicans and shit on people who call them out on it. (At least discuss how to stop them, or something.)
"Backup for when fascists come mess with your main Bluesky account."
One group wears MAGA hats and uses Truth Social, the other one uses BlueSky.
Any time there's a story about police that reaches a place that regularly insults Republicans as a hobby, my assumption is that someone's going to say something like this. It's like gravity, except with generic individuals meeting stereotypes.
Greenpeace disbelieved science and the truth around GMOs and embraced many conspiracy theories around the subject.
Trust me, the disease happened during birth and is called "emotional thinking". There is no cure, but symptoms can be reduced by careful doses of 'questioning your own beliefs'.
They disagree with its conclusions, they disagree with the methods. Whether it be racist phrenologist, classist handwriting experts, Greenpeace going after GMOs or alternative medicine people claiming their stuff works, people have historically proven to put opinions before science.
So it's Dr Phil, who people here dislike, vs "the largest Christian TV network".
This isn't going to make news, I just want some popcorn and some fun in this story.
What's the difference between the Democrats and the Republicans?
The states they want to gerrymander.
People say this, but I've seen some Democrats take a look at the Gerrymandering and go "let's just ignore the free PR of not trying to rig an election and just muddy the waters by doing it ourselves".
I'm just noting that shouting at a brick wall does nothing. If you don't want to be a waste of time, you may want to avoid it.
(I mean, you're on BlueSky, so you like shouting at an agreeable brick wall by definition.)
This comment is peak "if I ignore or insult the Trump voters they won't hurt me". News flash: they already have. Deal with it.
Everything is how it should be, with WWE having crappy storytelling.
Hey, it's aligned with the worst version of the political right and actively supports a sex offender.
I don't have an obligation to do anything; burden of proof lies with the accuser, and if you re-read what I actually said (rather than what you hallucinated me as saying) you'll realize that I never said that I believe it isn't happening.
P.S. I seem to recall my personal insult towards the guy also doing a personal insult was blocked. (Seriously, why am I wasting my time talking to nobodies like you on social media? Am I really that bored? Can I find something more productive to do, like watch grass grow?)
