“aren’t qualified to be article III judges” there are no qualifications to be article iii judges. These judges bc they’re specialized administrative law judges almost certainly are more qualified than say,
Federation Supreme Court legal drama. Case of the week style. Lots of commercial litigation about how to interpret standard weights and times of delivery for goods given relativity and different solar systems. All just oral arguments
The smell in the DNC’s big tent is terrible. These right wing super pacs are stinking up the joint.
Me vs today’s youth
Vis a vis the shit I knew and did when I was in my teens and twenties in the 90s-00s, I think at least among organizers and activists they’ve remarkably got their shit together
That’s a westernish/protestant thing! The terms for Easter and Christmas in Assyrian are “big celebration” and “little celebration” respectively

Disguising itself as “therapy”
Well yes it is in reality I meant it holds itself out as mental health care
Doesn’t conversion therapy hold itself out at mental health care? Like it’s not religious conversion
At best it’s akin to the “commercial speech” protection afforded to corner store horniness pills, but still the professional, regulated nature of the field should undercut even that. I can’t understand why they concurred
Fingers crossed, but provisioning of professional care should rarely if ever be treated as a viewpoint in the speech sense. What if a lawyer set up shop providing legal advice to commit crimes, the professional standard of care should obviate a 1st amendment “viewpoint” analysis.
Well yes but the Supreme Court deciding that talk conversion therapy programs are viewpoints so strict scrutiny applies when banning them amounts to instruction to every circuit to carve out those programs from bans. What’s the survival rate under strict scrutiny, like 5-10% in speech cases?

What, people are mad that Cuba is getting oil bc Putin?
I just don’t think “go back where you came from” is ever really okay, you can just stop at “shut up shithead”
I mean as someone from a refugee community that has a lot of shithead conservatives in it, which a lot of US leftists thinks gives them grounds to dismiss our experiences and be low key xenophobic, I think it is kind of wack to tell anyone to go back to anywhere
I’d argue it’s even a little worse, which is that they often believe the US working class isn’t constitutionally able to end capitalism and that global south breaking imperialism is a precondition to change—which is a recipe for organizational tailing and immobility domestically
Let's remember what happened the last time Sara Nelson and the flight attendants decided to flex their muscles
Ah but before the Gadsden Purchase they were Saboreños
Only people organized as workers can break that. It’s really frustrating how even some socialists talk about “labor” as one among numerous interest groups. Labor creates wealth so only labor can stop wealth from accruing. Rules to redistribute the wealth after it accrues will always be shaky
Yeah, like in a vacuum the logic of citizens united isn’t really wrong (the type of organization you are shouldn’t so heavily factor into your speech rights) but we don’t live in a vacuum we live in a plutocracy. So long as that is true, every “rule of law” bends to benefit the rich.
Democratic consultants: To replicate Mamdani’s success with the young people we must appeal to their short attention spans with memes and TikTok
Mamdani (actual quote): In the fifth century in what we now know as Ireland, a British warlord named Coroticus had laid waste to the countryside
I also am just sincerely asking questions not asserting some knowledge, this is just based on like having read ancient sources that talked about foreign peoples having fundamentally different biologies and stuff
But certainly peoples saw other peoples as subhumans in various parts of the world before 1492?
