Mount Rainier rises above the far shoreline beyond calm water, with soft pink evening alpenglow lighting the snow-covered upper slopes. Layers of lavender and gray clouds stretch across the sky, while dark trees and scattered waterfront homes form a deep blue band below the mountain. The smooth water in the foreground reflects the cool tones of the scene with a faint hint of pink. The photo feels calm, quiet, and gently luminous.
While I was at the Lake Washington this week, Mount Rainier caught my eye in this beautiful evening light. The pastel sky and quiet reflection gave the whole scene a peaceful feel.

And none of us will ever live that divorce down, amiright? Like Scott Adams and Russell Vought.

They are elsewhere, too. Try river valleys north and south. Don’t ask me how I know. 🙃

The sun is brilliant orange above a forested ridge and foggy valley.
The sun is a pale pink above a broad river with white mist rising above.
Sunrises have been lovely but quite different from day to day.

A smaller black dog with white chest and paws sits and looks forlornly at the camera while a larger version of the dog lies by him chewing his toy.
When the bigger dog steals your chew toy.

Sometimes the answer to “how do stupid things keep happening?” Is “people can find intelligent-sounding ways to rationalize anything”

I am not interested in being a person on Instagram, doing collaborative posts with people or filming myself talking to the camera. I want to be a person who fucks off away from the noise and works hard and writes better and better books for the rest of his life and then dies. Why is that not ok?

This is a delightful account I’ve missed since I left the bird site. Anne writes intricate, highly sensory fables that evoke deep feeling about place and life. Finally drifted through my feed here…

Wait, what? You’re against overtime pay for farm workers, but you say you stand for California’s workers? Ag is a huge sector in CA.
Get that whiteboard out and do some math. It’s not farm worker pay that’s killing farms- it’s equipment, fuel, middlemen who pay them nothing for their products.

Two black and white dogs sit expecting a treat and smiling at the camera. Tge smaller one looks like a canine version of Baby Yoda. The big older one looks like he’s wearing a black tux.
Well, Joe helped us to welcome a new dog after he left us. I’ve gotten Dug and Buddy out for the 3-mile hill loop the last couple days. Joe was an imp and would try to get Dug to play on leash, so I had to train them. Dug ignores Buddy’s tempting him so I’m not dealing with 170 lbs of dog chaos.

That’s what I thought. These “too funny to be true” pet videos are usually fakes. Thanks for the clues.

I believe that in order to take some small step forward, the word “bird” should be replaced with “saur” in all common names. Mockingsaur. Secretarysaur. Red-winged blacksaur.
