Tell LAvish Roots:
Respect US “This spring, I got a call that my mother was likely in her last days of life. I had very little accrued leave time, so I was going to get attendance points for every day of work that I missed to go be with her. But because she is my mother, I had to see her. While I stayed with her, I was so worried about my job that I called and asked HR if I could use bereavement leave to cover the time I was away. They told me no – I could only use it after she passed. Grief and loss of a parent is hard enough; on top of that, I had to worry about losing my job. I’m organizing to win our union because no one should have to face the disrespect I experienced at the time I lost my mother.” Odine Valente,

No one should have to choose between saying goodbye to a loved one and keeping their job. That's why Lavish Roots dining workers like Odine are organizing the union at Meta's Washington campus.
