Rusty blackbird, a scarce migrant through New York City, in Green-wood Cemetery, Brooklyn, yesterday. #birds #birding #birdsseenin2026

They put up a barrier but they couldn’t keep a good pigeon down. I’m hoping these bird tracks will persist in this sidewalk for as long as I live around here. #birds #birding #brooklyn
NYT calling the top
The birds in the photograph are not Indigo Buntings. They have narrow flycatcher type bills whereas buntings are seedeaters with more conical sparrowesque bills. Nor does the bunting flock like this. I’m guessing this photo is from Asia but I’m not certain of what species.
Something something glossy starling, okay now I’ll click the link…
Nope. 🤷🏻
But yet the New York Times claims it cannot reasonably estimate the size of demonstrations.
Definitely a top gull!
While the US intentionally starves them.

That’s “Mrs.” Common Goldeneye to you, sir. #birdsseenin2026 #birds #birding
Definitely
Now and then I wonder what happened to the edgy, lawless NYC I fell in love with 40 years ago. Then yesterday when I was exiting the public restroom at Coney Island a guy came in and opened the wall-mounted diaper-changing station so he could cut open and roll a blunt on it. We’re back!
I love this picture of a Lineated Woodpecker on a cement utility post in Colombia, taken two weeks ago on Isla Barú. I love it because the slightly chipped holes in the post create the strong impression that this very sturdy woodpecker can drill into concrete! #birdsseenin2026 #birding #birds
I invited myself to eat lunch with Werner Herzog at the cafeteria at Mcmurdo Station in Antarctica
This is in fact exactly how valet parking works. A $20 tip buys you the right to park your own car and hold onto your keys instead of letting some stoned teenager cruise to the McDonalds drive-through in your Ferrari just as soon as you have entered the restaurant and are talking to the Maitre-D.
Black-necked Stilt in a flooded field in Bolívar, Colombia a couple of weeks ago. The tallest, skinniest, gangliest of all the waders! #birdsseenin2026 #birds #birding
Hooded Merganser today at Green-wood Cemetery in Brooklyn, NY. Really one of the world’s most spectacular ducks! #birdsseenin2026 #birds #birding
American Goshawk not only for #birdsseenin2026 but also for my life, country, state and Nassau County lists! In deep cover at Jones Beach, Long Island. #birds #birding Today. (United States)
Russet-throated Puffbird, Colombia (near Cartagena) last week. I always say Trogons are my favorite family of birds, but Puffbirds are right up there! #birdsseenin2026 #birding
Least Grebe at Marina de Barú, Bolívar, Colombia a week ago. #birdsseenin2026 #birding
Datura has long been a plant with mystery, intrigue, superstition and conspiracy swirling around its “magical” properties. According to Wade Davis’ somewhat dramatic anthropological thriller The Serpent and the Rainbow, it’s a critical ingredient in Haitian zombification powder.
Channeling Pibe!
Oops here’s the photo…
This Brown Noddy was actively harassing the fisherman piloting this boat to the point where he ultimately was trying to swat it away. Maybe the tern thought he was a big fish? #birding #birdsseenin2026 although I think I already posted this one! #avesColombia
Just want to go on record as admitting that I am only a mediocre #bird photographer, especially with an iPhone through binoculars. “Digibinning,” as I hear the youngsters refer to it. But this photo of a Bare-faced Ibis is not bad, if I am allowed to say so myself! #birdsseenin2026 in #Colombia
A black bird with a pale eye and astonishingly long and wavy toes sits on a white railing.
The Great-tailed grackle is perhaps not the rarest or most exciting of #bird species, but look at these toes! Are they all like this or is this one special? It’s like one of those Indian sadhus who never cut their fingernails! #avescolombia #birdsseenin2026 #birding
