1/ Once when the oldest daughter was a month old she went through a long crying jag. Neither of us knew what we were doing yet & we couldn't settle her down. But my wife was exhausted from being a new mom, so I put the baby in the stroller and just got out of Dodge so my wife could nap.
3/3. The crying instantly stopped & the baby fell asleep. To this day I still have no idea how she knew to do that. But it was a gigantic relief, and for 23 years I've been grateful to that saint of a lady.
2/ While I was out on the walk a couple of women stopped to coo at the baby. We chatted over the sounds of a screaming infant. Without warning the older of the two - obviously an experienced mother herself - reached into the stroller and rotated the baby from her back to her side.

the thing to remember is that by the time FDR takes office the depression had been going for three years and the hoover administration looked like a bunch of do-nothing assholes. loudly and visibly saying "we are working to fix the problem!" was meant to bring some calm to the storm. it worked!
Oh I don’t think that’s even debatable. I think this 1 year period alone tops all political corruption put together at every level. Quantifiably.
Even adjusting for inflation, I think the Trump administration has profited more from corruption than every other presidency combined. It's insane.
That's not fair to either judges or clerks. It's a professional position, not a clerical one. You work closely together, have to understand and respect each other, and the clerk has to be able to draft in the judge's voice.
The current crony system is problematic but this would be worse.
this reminds me, i don't think SCOTUS should be allowed to choose their own clerks. standardize the hiring schedule, put the applications in a pool, blind reads (perhaps by a panel of former clerks) and random assignments.
This means that HHS can no longer initiate investigations of gender clinics for trans youth based on the Kennedy declaration or try to terminate federal funding through Medicaid and Medicare.
This is an unequivocal win for the 22 states that brought this suit to protect access.
