what kind of fancy cocaine dispensers are these?
INBOX: Robert McCartney, who worked for 39 years at The Washington Post, including as a Metro columnist and editor, before retiring in 2021, claims on X that he has heard the Post has laid off *all* its photojournalists.
Just spitballing here, but maybe in the land of the free we shouldn't have a pedophilic ruling elite class, police who kidnap people off the street, and concentration camps?
Incredible
He's telling us what he's doing. Using the military to suppress protest. At some point the opposition needs to listen to him and adjust strategy.
Hegseth fires general officers and JAGs, cracks down on dissenting views in military, orders killing civilians at sea without legal rationale, calls generals to Quantico to demand loyalty.
Trump deploys troops to U.S. cities.
"What are Trump and Hegseth up to? It's a mystery!"
My best friend had Huntington’s, and it finally took its toll on him a bit over a decade ago. So glad to see progress being made
This must be what it felt like to live during the McCarthy period, yeah, in which conservatives wielded explicitly naked double standards to target their foes while the flagrant hypocrisy was generally swept under the rug by those institutions that could call it out?
four people holding up protest signs. tina (left) holds one that says "we trust women." a dude in grey with a baseball hat holds one that says "the pharisees were certain, too." grayson, who has a beard, holds a sign that says "pro choice." i am the last in line, staring off into the distance, holding a sign that says, "i believe in a literal interpretation of genesis... of the daleks."
special birth-month thanks to @rodneyboles.bsky.social for restoring this memory to me in full resolution. it's from 3 aug 2014, one of my favorite and best ever #doctorwho protest signs. or counter-protest, i guess, from the "saturday chores" movement spearheaded by grayson and tina haver-currin
Wayne Coyne of the band The Flaming Lips stands on an amp. There are giant pink blow up robots behind him on stage, the audience in front, and confetti being fired from cannons
Got to shoot The Flaming Lips last night. My 3rd time getting to cover one of their shows. Just a concert photographer’s dream.
REM got $80 million from Warners to re-sign, then made New Adventures In Hi-Fi, probably their least accessible album since Murmur. Taking twenty million dollars each to keep doing exactly what you were going to do anyway isn't "selling out", it's not being totally fucking stupid.
oh so it's illegal to have friends now, is it? it's cancellable to send your friend nice little birthday notes? the woke mob has come for poetry? for nice little drawings to your buds?
They are terrific live
Liberals never tire of invoking fascism when discussing Trump. It’s the same kind of thinking that led some to believe Jan. 6 was a nigh successful coup attempt and not a riot of deranged, delusional, and internet-addled human beings spurred on by hustlers and lunatics. If Trump becomes president again, there is a real threat he will try to remain in office when his term is up. But Trump is not savvy or cutthroat enough to hold power in such a manner. He is not Putin, he is not Xi, and American democracy is not fledgling and new, as Germany’s was in the Weimar years. Trump doesn’t have it in him to become a world-historical dictator, cowing the military-industrial complex and transforming the entire CIA and FBI into his personal army. Liberals want to believe otherwise, either out of a disingenuous need to elevate their own position—think of all the Twitter followers Timothy Snyder and Michael Beschloss have racked up over the last eight years—or a more genuine hatred of Trump borne out of a misreading of history. Or, more accurately, a misunderstanding of what America is—a federalist republic that will never, for better and worse, be dominated by a centralized form of government. Consider the thicket of laws decided by states, cities, counties, towns, and the like, or that the federal government can barely determine what happens in the public schools or in the courts. Fascism is coming here? MSNBC better hope so, if they want their ratings back.

Watch this
Democracies do not use their military to try and intimidate their own citizens with “shows of presence”.
This is fascism.
Our dear friend and Spider Bags frontman Dan McGee could use some help with the long recovery ahead of him, if you’re able to help out

Watched the Kentucky Derby. Not sure I’ve ever watched it before. Kinda disgusted by how they keep whipping the horse.
Infuriating. These places are slammed with crowds and need more help, not less.
280K people in North Carolina are on Aetna ACA plans. Huge impact here

The Durham native attended NC State, where he studied textiles. But his real education came from haunting local nightclubs—and then opening his own legendary Raleigh music venue.
60 Minutes could find no criminal records for 75% of the Venezuelans the U.S. sent to a notorious mega-prison in El Salvador. https://cbsn.ws/4clubLP
My god, 75%. No due process.
This is really unfair to everyone who just voted for him for the racism.
yeah if I was another country I’d be doing this on principle at this point.
