Mike Sizemore — The bks Agency

Very pleased to announce that I’ve signed with The bks Agency and am delighted to have the remarkable James Spackman as my new literary agent.

James and I are already cooking up a new book to take out in the new year. Should be a fun ride.

THE STEAL 008 BLIND RAGE (1978)

Issue 8 is out! @hinchcliffe.bsky.social jumps in to the joyously absurd BLIND RAGE ("Let’s begin by synchronising your Braille watches!") and @sizemore.bsky.social puts the soundtrack to the Italian Job over the Bourne Identity, to make a point about... cinema?

The Steal 007 Jewel Robbery (1932)

In the new issue of The Steal @sizemore.bsky.social waxes his moustache and adjusts his dickie bow to tackle the William Powell/Kay Francis charmer 'Jewel Robbery' (and still has time to explain why 'Die Hard' isn't a heist film) thesteal.substack.com/p/the-steal-...

Seeing a lot of criticism of del Toro for fucking up Frankenstein by cutting this integral scene. What a hack.

Kevin Costner would have beat that mutt to death with a kryptonite shovel and told Clark it had gone to live on a farm. Just not their farm.

Looking forward to the scene in the upcoming F1 movie where Brad Pitt has to drive his Porsche 911 GT3 into Russia, inverted, to save the rookie.

After seeing that parade I’m confident that Greenland could take DC in three days.

I’m glad life isn’t dull. Don’t feel you have to torment yourself with my weird voice on YouTube though. Nice to back in the same gang again.

The time John let me revisit his DARK STAR universe came up in conversation a couple of times this week. I feel a rewatch coming on.

Brilliant. That’s the good stuff. I’m pretty sure I only ever saw a single episode back in the day. Had completely forgotten about it. I owe you one.

Interesting to see in the NYT that James Frey is back with a new novel! That whole scandal seems a million years ago. Here’s a snap from when @sizemore.bsky.social interviewed him back in 2009 at the ICA- the video is lost in internet time. And evidence we didn’t return the book for a refund

There’s a couple on there I skipped and now I’ll swing back to. And I’d completely forgotten about The Game. Loved that but only saw it once. Thanks!

I watched the first couple of episodes as a friend of mine worked on it but it was close to something I was writing at the time so paused. Keep meaning to pick it up again.

I decided to watch The Bureau ahead of the US remake and ended up binging the entire run in a few weeks. Couldn’t take the American version seriously after that. Great show!

I watched it when it first aired and enjoyed it. I’ll add it to the rewatch list.

Good call. I think I’ve forgotten most of it. Did they ever get around to a second series?

Need more classic brit spy tv to tide me over till Slow Horses is back. Burned through Sandbaggers, Harry’s Game, Tinker Tailor, and Smiley’s People.

What else should I be loading up?

Midnight Quatermass MIDNIGHT QUATERMASS is a channel about movies, memory, and the scenes that won’t let go. Two series to start: THERE’S A SCENE: A single scene. A deep cut. Why it matters. THERE’S AN INTRO: The grea...

Spending more time on Bluesky, but the video channel is running in conjunction with my newsletter. If weird and wonderful movies and tv is your thing I’d appreciate a subscribe over on YouTube.

It does make a difference knowing I’m not talking into the void. Cheers.

Glad it’s doing what it was built for. And that’s a good one. Gleaming the Cube is a highlight of Slater’s more oddball choices.

I love certain parts of it so hard but I really want it to be a more straightforward swashbuckler Ala The Crimson Pirate. I know that’s the whole point and that I’m missing it on purpose but the line ‘ I want my father back, you son of a bitch!’ is so perfect I just wish it was in a better movie.
