April’s reading clubs were so special! Thank you to our volunteers and teachers who made it happen for all 401 kiddos 🤩📚
They loved learning about genetics, evolution, and space. It felt especially timely with the recent Artemis mission! 🚀🌒

Lastly, 5th graders will hear "Unplugged" by Gordon Korman. It follows a tech-obsessed kid sent to a no-screens wilderness camp, where he slowly starts to rethink what real life is all about…
April's book for 4th grade is "Olga: Out of Control!" by Elise Gravel. This one follows Olga, a science-loving girl trying to manage a chaotic group of alien babies while using observation, experiments, and a lot of patience.
Our 3rd grade book is "How Do You Burp in Space?" by Susan E. Goodman. It’s a super fun guide to life beyond Earth, packed with real facts about space travel and all the crazy and unexpected things you’d have to figure out.
Part two: Here are our 3rd-5th grade ‘Science & Technology’ books for this Saturday's reading clubs! 🚀💻🧠 ✨📚
You know the drill! Volunteer to inspire a love of reading on Saturday, April 11th at an elementary school in Downtown Los Angeles ⭐📚🪐

Our 2nd graders will dive into "When the Whales Walked" by Dougal Dixon, a fascinating journey through the strangest instances of evolution, from tiny elephants to snakes with legs.
In 1st grade, we’ll read "Counting on Katherine" by Helaine Becker. It follows Katherine Johnson’s love of numbers as a child and how that curiosity led her to play a key role in bringing Apollo 13 safely home.
Our Kindergarten book is "The Smallest Spot of a Dot" by Linsey Davis and Michael Tyler. This is an inspiring story of connection and equality that explores how genetics make each of us unique, while reminding us of the ways we are all connected.
Here’s a look at a few of the books we’ll be reading at our April reading clubs, all centered around the theme “The Wonders of Science & Technology” 📚
It’s time to RSVP for April's "Science & Technology" reading clubs! If you’ve been looking for a fun and rewarding volunteer opportunity in Los Angeles, this is your sign. Join us to inspire kids with a love of reading!

The Jaycees are still looking for volunteers to be Santas, Mrs. Clauses, and elves tomorrow! Sign up here: pasadenajaycees.org/operation-sa...
Our volunteer René Amy was mentioned in the Pasadena Star-News article: “[he] joined the Santa troop after Jaycees lent him a Santa outfit for Reading to Kids, of which he was a part. He soon bought his own suit (which was burned in the fire) and grew a beard, the better to fit his holiday role."
The Pasadena Jaycees are the reason Santa shows up at our December reading clubs, as they provide the Santa suits we use each year! Their ‘Operation Santa’ organizes teams of volunteers to deliver thousands of toys to children every Christmas Eve 🎅🎁
Throwback Thursday to past December reading clubs!! You can meet Santa THIS SATURDAY by signing up to volunteer at readingtokids.org 💙
