I think it's possible the reality of governing involves being forced to pick the least dangerous responsibilities to hand to dangerous people who can't be forced out in the short term

for his part, rudd says the responsibility was entrusted to mark arbib and that the RC found if there was anyone in the gov who cut corners on safety, it was him

Are there (m)any government programs, here or anywhere, that are well designed and systematically hard to abuse?

A few years back I concluded anger is a drug. it's a great way to feel invincible for a time, but too much and the low makes you feel empty.

Sometimes I look at chronically angry people and wonder if they're in some zone where anger or fury is the only way they have to feel alive.

my current hypothesis is, it's because they're enough of the global population that it's inevitable to have to interact with them at some point

just dissociate from the actual meaning of the words you type and it's probably doable if you're paid well

It seems you're saying "inadequate" is no better than "nothing but lip service", which I'm not sure about. But, per my law student friend, the merits of passing something now and improving it later vs. trying to get things right the first time are surprisingly complex so you may have a point.

Rudd's account is that Wong hammered out a deal to pass the CPRS with Turnbull's Coalition, then Abbott knifed him as at the 11th hour, and it didn't pass.
It's true that there doesn't appear to be any appetite to deal with the Greens, but I don't think it was good enough of them to just kill it.

Gonna approach Newsom with my bold new economic position that you should find money when you cut grass or break rocks.

hypothetical tech deets: the screen was designed for SNES Mode 2 where the boss is BG 1, using two palettes, and the background is BG 2 using column scrolling to produce a tilting effect. The players and UI elements are all sprites, although this would probably be impractical in an actual SNES game.

The same picture, but Link is pixelated to the same resolution as the jpeg.

A snippet of a scene from Ocarina of Time, rendered at 1440p resolution. The 3D models are pretty distinct from the pre-rendered background that they're rendered on top of.

The same snippet but downscaled to match the resolution of the backdrop. The scene looks a bit more coherent. Unfortunately, the downscaling introduced a very slight blur effect to the backdrop as well.

so I've been working on a downscaler for playing 3D games that were supposed to be played at a lower resolution, but there's still some very slight imperfections that are bugging me...

An analog, three panel comic sequence created using yellow sticky notes. It features a goose/duck like creature that has literal googly eyes. As the sticky notes progress, it looks as though the goose/duck is coming closer to the viewer by having the bird shape itself—as well as the googly eyes—grow larger in scale.

I knew my stash of googly eyes would be of use one day

A combination chart with the rows named Gear and Slug while the columns are named Metal and Guilty.
Each square represents what game it's from:
Top Left: Metal Gear - Metal Gear Rex
Bottom Left: Metal Slug - one of the characters peers out of a tank holding binoculars
Top Right: Guilty Gear - one fo the game characters holding onto a sword stuck in the ground
Bottom Right: Guilty Slug - A hand drawn slug saying "oh no!"
