Postdoctoral position in Forest Genetics at @uni-freiburg.de with a focus on local adaptation and/or stress reaction of trees. The position combines research and teaching (4 SWS), and offers the opportunity to develop an independent research profile (4+ years).
Marija Kravanja, one of the PhD students supported by an #EVOLTREE grant to attend the conference, presented an original study using FORGENIUS data on the correlation between genetic diversity and resilience, as estimated by restoration rates obtained from satellite data.
Final words from Delphine and Beppe, and the Joint EVOLTREE-FORGENIUS Conference is closed. It was great fun to discuss science with all you! Enjoy your weekend! And don't miss the next #EVOLTREE Conference in 2027 (venue to be announced soon)!
The EVOLTREE-FORGENIUS Joint Conference starts tomorrow in Madrid, so much excitement in the air! It is already our 3rd Conference and we continue growing. Thanks for supporting #EVOLTREE
Delphine Grivet from the host organisation INIA-CSIC opens the Joint EVOLTREE- FORGENIUS Conference in Madrid! About 200 researchers, including many early-career scientists in the room.
David O'Brien opens the first session ("New Tools for Science to Reach Practice") of the Joint EVOLTREE-FORGENIUS conference with an entertaining talk on how to communicate to politicians, practitioners and the public.
Christian Rellstab (WSL, Switzerland) presented how hybridisation and admixture enhance drought tolerance in oaks. This work was supported by an #EVOLTREE Opportunity grant, a program that provides niche funding for research in forest genetics and genomics. www.evoltree.eu/funding-init...
Second Day starts with an amazing keynote talk on genetic adaptation and phenotypic plasticity by Silvia Matesanz from URJC. Great talk Silvia! #EVOLTREE
Santiago González-Martínez from @inrae-france.bsky.social, our own #EVOLTREE coordinator, gave a talk on the connections between genetic diversity, historical demography, and rates of adaptive evolution in 4 species of conifers. He also cautioned on the applicability of genomic forecasting methods.
A creative way of taking notes at the EVOLTREE-FORGENIUS conference. Mona Schreiber‘s graphical summary of David O‘Brien‘s keynote from yesterday.
Visit to one of the Spanish National Breeding Centres. Spain has 327 Genetic Conservation Units (GCUs) involving 20 main tree species, 228 of which have been genetically characterised! #EVOLTREE
We had a magical night at the #EVOLTREE conference dinner, with live folk music, excellent food, and a warm tribute to Beppe Vendramin, a very dear member of our community ❤️

exciting times ahead. the permanent exhibition "breaking the code" about genetic research at @wslresearch.bsky.social is opening soon!
with apprentices from ETH, we developed a computer game to assign white oak species (and their hybrids) based on leaf morphology and genetic markers.
stay tuned!
