My guess is that’s actually the issue. I don’t think he cared they remastered it without him, I think he just cared they released it at all.

I believe that’s what the Discotek (and later Anime Ltd.) release is actually based on, if I’m not mistaken

For reference, Yasuhiko used to hate Venus Wars so much that he completely blocked any new Japanese releases prior to the 2018 remaster, and the only reason Discotek’s BD made it out was because he wasn’t informed (and he was not happy)

On the other hand, if they re-do Dangaioh they would like to produce a new dub and a new subtitle track. Same goes for Macross Plus, they would like to re-master and re-dub them, but Burgess stated that doing so might spark a whole “Harmony Gold thing,” referring to the continued threat from Harmony Gold that they will sue anyone who releases or imports anything related to Macross. Nonetheless, Manga would love to license Macross 7, but it, like Memories, remains significantly too expensive for any North American Anime studio to license.

Macross Plus was due to them never producing a dub due to lost M&Es, Dangaioh was because they never dubbed the first episode (and refused to release a set with mismatched audio tracks), but I have no idea what happened with Bounty Dog

In the US at least, all of their DVDs were dual audio except Macross Plus: The Movie (sub), Dangaioh, and Bounty Dog, IIRC.

My understanding is the large number of dub-only DVDs in the UK was due to issues getting the English and Japanese audio to sync to the same framerate video.

Really makes them look like bootlegs, huh?

Manga video is the main one that comes to mind, but I could swear I have a few other releases in my collection like that.
