I get sea sick watching boats from shore and I find seafaring pretty terrifying so, yeah, not envious of that experience.

Finished "The Night That Finds Us All" by @johnhornor.bsky.social and as always it was a delicious trip through cosmic horror goodness. Don't think I've ever learned quite as much about boating as I did while reading this and the idea of a haunted house adrift at sea is just *chef's kiss*.

Well that happened. My thoughts go out to those who will be affected by the inevitable restructuring of EA and its studios.

So, just to get this straight. Folks are expressing malcontent with the government's brownshirts and now troops are sent to clean up. And members of the President's staff are saying that expressing oneself verbally against said brownshirts is effectively terrorism. And this is year one?

So this rapture thing... Was that supposed to be midnight GMT or are we looking at some other time zone here? Just wanna make sure I'm prepped for the flight.

I have found a need to distract my brain away from only thinking creatively at work and let me just tell you, writing short-form horror is fun! Why didn't I do this earlier?

Somehow I had completely missed that one of my favorite horror writers, @johnhornor.bsky.social, has a new book out in less than a month! Christmas comes early this year and it smells of the sea. Can't wait!

Finding your tribe online, across countries and continents, sharing your rituals and ideas and learning that yeah, others had read those books and shared those interests and had those same thoughts across the globe. I don't think the world has ever felt as open and explorable as it did back then.

Pretty soon they'll be charging folks for all those thoughts and prayers too, I bet. Absolutely disgusting.

I mean, I understand their responses and 100% empathize. The industry is a shitty place, writers have been hit super hard, and I'm sure there are oceans of talented game writers who can fill this position. I hope they apply and I get to read their wonderful words.

I understand and agree. We had over 300 folks apply for the previous position and I genuinely wish I could hire more people.

I'm well aware of the skillset of game writers. I am also aware, as a craft lead, of how to use that skillset for extremely important stuff a screenwriter would probably not have experience with - but it doesn't mean a game writer is always the right fit. New fuel on the fire is good for team.

This thread is a fine example of what happens when assumptions overflow online.We know the difference, folks. We asked for that position because we need that specific skillset.

The IOI hiring managers DO know they are different jobs. We're specifically looking for someone with screenwriting chops to join the studio (which currently has something like 10 game writers employed - myself included). I asked for that position because we need that specific skillset.

That and drawing little maps for navigation.
