I love seeing the cats comfortable and sharing space. Alexander and Thomas in the living room, Artemis and Thomas in the arm chairs, and Alexander trying to figure out a toy while Thomas watches from offscreen. Alexander is so orange.

I remember walking out of the first big assembly at CGSC where they had just hyped everyone up as being the top half of their year group and listening to two guys talking about how they didn’t trust the COVID vaccines because those things permanently change your DNA.

Considering that we don’t send people to the war college until they’re past the retirement cut line you could argue that attending war college is less about who’s best and more about who’s left. Not that the next rung down the PME ladder is much better.

The same people who argued that all conflicts can be solved through overwhelming air power also sold the idea that those conflicts can all be supplied with airlift, and in neither case were they correct.

She is nice for the most part, but if she doesn’t like someone she’ll verbally destroy them without changing her tone of voice and with a smile on her face, which makes her even better. Her conversations with Ferdinand, Sylvain, and especially Lorenz are hilarious.

Popes are notoriously weak on crime, they’re clerics and even Trickery Domain clerics have terrible sleight of hand skills and usually don’t put many points into dexterity. This is why you need a balanced party!

You’re right, their business model depends on people trusting AI to an unreasonable degree and none of the companies involved would take that risk especially if their competitors didn’t follow suit. It would have to be forced, and no one in a position of power is willing to do that either.

I think it would improve the situation if AIs were banned from using the first person in responses or using any terminology that reflects a human mental process like when they processing and put up a message saying something like “thinking” during the delay.

I think anthropomorphism is the root of most of the problems with AI. People talk about it thinking, feeling and as you said hallucinating when it does none of these things and they end up treating AIs like knowledgeable people because it produces plausible looking output with absolute confidence.

Post-run pets with Thomas. I adore that ridiculous face he makes when getting pet on the nose. Normally there’s even more fang showing.

Yeah, more than 21 years in a morning person job and the struggle remains. I get up 3-4 hours later on the weekends.

Creating a nonsensical situation through your own definitions is a valid criticism. If you can’t manage proportionality, discrimination, humanity, or military necessity because your weapons or methods don’t meet those criteria then you are, by your own definition, unable to wage a just war.

The United States hadn’t been doing this “since the boat strikes.” I’m turning 44 this week and the United States has been crisscrossing this line like a drunken sailor on shore leave taking a sobriety test for most of my adult life only to take a hard dive to one side over the last year.

The natural through line of this argument is that under these conditions it is impossible to have a war that does not involve war crimes, and as a result all wars except defensive wars are atrocities. This postulate is unacceptable to those in power who are ambitious to increase their influence.

In fact, someone should go edit the Wikipedia page right now.

On the off chance Trump is alive, it would be really funny and make a lot of terrible people angry if we all refused to admit it. Just act confused, ask people what they’re talking about, and tell them that he died on April 4th and it’s really weird that his kids aren’t more upset.

The cover of Hogfather by Terry Pratchett depicts a skeleton with a single glowing blue eye wearing a fur lined red hooded cloak and a fake white beard. The silhouette of a sleigh being pulled by giant boar is visible across the beard.

Today for pedicures with Pratchett I’m going with Hogfather, one of my old favorites. It’s the last of the Death books that I didn’t already own a copy of, and my local bookstore is running a bit low on Pratchett books I don’t have but I was happy to see they’ve got all of the Tiffany Aching books.

A pale orange cat sits on the second highest platform of a black and red cat tree, looking down at a brown tabby cat who is sitting in a red house like structure just below. The brown tabby cat is looking at the camera with his ears slightly flattened and his tail is poking out of the red house.

Thomas has taken to curling up in this recliner in the mornings on the blanket and I love seeing him so happy and comfortable. He and Alexander sometimes also share the cat tree, for a given value of sharing.

The museum itself does a great job of explaining when each room was built and under whose ownership. It’s also an entirely reasonable $5 per person to visit.

Funnily enough, both sites have connections to the same architect: Harvey P. Smith. He was in charge or restoring two missions and the palace. I don’t know about the missions, but at the palace he added multiple new rooms with no historical basis to make the site match his vision.

A long room with white walls, a flagstone floor, and large dark logs across the ceiling. A table with a brazier and multiple chairs are in the room along with a table and a desk at the far end. The furniture was built in the 1930s but matches the style that would have been used in the 1700s.

Spent part of the afternoon visiting the Spanish Governor’s Palace in San Antonio, which actually belonged to a presidio captain, and then paid a visit to the World Heritage Center to learn about the historical missions. A pleasant way to spend a few hours and learn about the area.

A drawing depicting Edelgard Von Hresvelg from Fire Emblem: Three Houses pointing at a blackboard where multiple pictures are taped up with lines connecting them. She is saying “So in conclusion, our government is run by the lizard people, and the mole people living underground are plotting our demise.” Her chief minion, Hubert, stands to the side applauding.

As Trump start firing cabinet officials in a desperate attempt to create scapegoats it’s worth remembering that a Scaramucci is a negative unit of time as he was fired before his official start date. You count Scaramuccis backwards from the firing to the initial announcement.

It’s been a long and busy day, but I just want to take a few seconds to say some things:

Trans women are women.

Trans men are men.

Trans rights are human rights.

We should just let people live their own lives and find happiness where they can.
