"Yes, that's right. It's gonna be for you, since you haven't eaten anything yet, you naughty little kitten." Miao'er says to the small creature that only meowed softly on reply. It then walked towards her, rubbing itself on her.
"Yes, yes, we will go catch one soon. A big one!"

"Oh dear...I think we might have to go fishing."
The kitten only looks up at her, tilting its head.

"Happy Valentine's Day to you too, Xuan'er! I also love you!" π₯Ίβ¨
"H-Hold on, I'm going to take you someplace warm first, okay?"
Luckily, she still had her basket with her, something she always carries. She lifted the poor animal into the basket and made her way to her current dwelling. Which is an old abandoned cottage that she found on her walks.
Miao'er opened the chest to see a calico kitten, frail and thin. Cold, starved, left to die in this locked chest. The worst part of it all was it was left to die here. In the river, when the tides would soon come up, to eventually suffocate and drown.
It kept on crying.
-
She looked around.
Some rocks were in the area and Miao'er looked for something strong enough to bust the nail out of the lock.
When she found one, she frantically tried to hit it, numerous times, and when she saw some progress, she only continued.
The nail soon came loose.
-
When she heard the cry again, her face grew grim.
It came from the chest.
The chest was closed tight, with a nail plugged into the holes, keeping it from being open.
Miao'er didn't know what to do, she's physically weak as she is, and she can't pull the nail out of it in her state.

A cry can be heard near the riverbanks.
Miao'er recognized it to be a kitten. This wasn't very unusual, maybe the mother cat went out to find some food. She tried to look for it, walking over to where the source of the sound was.
Miao'er saw something very unusual. A chest.

"The world is cruel often to those who are kind."
"I'm terribly sleepy," she yawns and walks over to her sleeping hammock.
"Goodnight!" She whispers, to no one in particular really, save for some of her animal friends who are also turning in for the night.
"Oh, do I? Thank you, your compliments are always special to me."
As the song ends, the little oriole on her finger flew and landed on her head, as if proud of itself. Miao'er giggles and claps as she throws it compliments.
She raised her hand to her eye level, acknowledging the little bird's desire to sing a duet with her!
"Who can say where we'll go? Who can promise what will be? But I'll stay by your side, if you love me for me~"
-
It seemed that her singing was attracting the local animals in the are as they have joined to spectate the scene.
"I'll be yours, together, we shall always be as one. If you love me for me."
A little oriole bird jumped and landed on her finger, chirping sweetly.

"Could I be the one you're seeking? Will I be the one you choose? Can you tell my heart is leaping? My eyes will give you clues~"
"What you see may be deceiving, truth lies underneath the skin. Hope will blossom by believing, the heart that lies within~"
-
"You're a gentle one, said she! In my heart, I'd be glad, if you loved me for me."
"You say your love is true, and I hope that it will be. I'd be sure if I knew, that you loved me for me!"
The birds also burst in chirp, becoming Miao'er's very own chorus.
-
Miao'er was humming as she was tending to the birds, she found some grain and decided to feed them with it.
"Once a lass, met a lad," she bursts into a gentle song, her voice sweet and cheerful as if calling the birds to come to her.
-
"I know."
"It would still be pollution."
She stayed quiet for a moment, then heaved a deep breath before exhaling, a faint smile on her lips as she closed her eyes.
"Then, I will say this again, Xuan'er, so you could get used to it again. I love you."
"How...how long has it been, Xuan'er..?" She asks, her voice soft that only Xuan'er could hear.
So, don't tell me you're not the same person, okay? You will always be my fiancΓ©!"
Almost out of breath as she raised her voice to emphasize that last word, "And know...I've been waiting for you, ever since we parted ways that day."
"I will fall in love with you again, Xuan'er. Over and over again." She starts off, her voice almost breaks as she lets her own tears flow down, continuously brushing Xuan'er's hair with her hands.
"It doesn't matter how, where or when. No matter how long it has been, you're mine. -
Seeing that look on his face, Miao'er felt guilty, so she stopped her facade and immediately hugged Xuan'er by the neck, a comforting hand petting his hair, fingers tangling with the locks.
"Only my dear fiancΓ© could do me no harm, so it really is you, my love."
"I know you have my ashes," she says, then held her head high. The soft gaze from earlier was gone, now a look of conviction as she looked back at him.
"Can you bring them here, and destroy them right in front of me? Or scatter them far away from here?"
"If that's true, then," she cut him off, she brought her hands together and looked to the side. Now avoiding to look at his figure, "Could you do me a favor? That would bring this soul of mine some peace?"
"Could you tell me," she started off, whispering, "What kinds of things did you do, Xuan'er?"
