Unless my family had little experience in filling out forms, my grandfather and grandmother, along with siblings, had "Father is Dead" and "Mother is Dead" down under "Marital Status"

I wonder how the Ireland Thinks party support for the protests plays out in terms of intra-left relations, does it cause tensions between SF and Greens-Lab-SD, or is it a classic case of agreeing on the root cause, but not on the remedy?

Not to mention the mood seemed mutinous when Paul Murphy approached the demonstrators - plenty of fascist adjacent cosplay mixed in with the ordinary protesters.

The only (very faint) case for the defence generally made is that Drogheda largely involved an Old English royalist garrison, rather than systematic ethnic cleansing.

The Jewish Chronicle has been the denominational version of the Spectator for many decades now.

Plus, you'd have thought a "lifelong Star Trek fan" would have realised that the very point of the show (and the various incarnations since) was the alien encounters serving as a metaphor for contemporary terrestrial issues.

As has been seen with Mondragón and Bologna, it has to be very much a community-driven project, rather than led by politicians, but that's not to stop SF, Soc Dems, Labour etc incorporating co-operativism into their long-term economic thinking.

Ah, see you mean *her* guaranteed loss, in which case fair dues.

If people are voting for the Green list out of personal conviction, they're hardly going to argue the toss over what name's at the top, I'd have thought?

Seems the smallest gap between the Big Two in quite some time?

Also worth noting it was only in 1999 that camogie joined hurlers at 15-a-side!

Don't hear of too many Statias these days!

TBF, I think the days of any party polling much higher than 25-30% are well and truly over, so the entire opposition pretty much have to rise in tandem.

There are very few constituencies (outside of the Border regions), where SF are near two FPV quotas, in which case it's a question of whether their transfers can get the locally strongest left party over the line in 4-5 seaters.

Moreover, the combined left have been consistently polling around 42-44% since the GE - not enough for a majority, of course, but certainly more SF and SD TDs, and the others all holding steady.

You'd imagine both countries would be large enough to have their own home-grown pollsters!

TBF, they do actually publicly publish their demographics, unlike Ireland Thinks:

Although,TBF, that also works in the favour of both Labour and the Soc Dems in Dublin.

Literary types look down on horror, but there's a strong argument for John Connolly being the most consistent Irish author this century.

Hmmm, @hmcevansoneya.bsky.social, colour me extremely sceptical about this lot, the fact of their only apparent web presence being a WordPress page should ring alarm bells!
