the slippery slope from “gov ID required to see adult sites” to “gov ID required for all internet access”, to “gov ID required to use a computer operating system” is happening so fast and people still don’t see it as overreach because they think porn is yucky

You know what happens if felons can't hold office?
Every fucking trans person in Idaho loses the ability to hold office.
principla skinner thinking "am i out of touch? no it's the pope who is wrong"
TLDR someone let me weaponize my autism and put me in a room with JD Vance to yell at him about the nuances of Just War Theory
In my mind, the question that is actually presented by Just War Theory is not “when is a war justified?” but actually “why does every war eventually become unjust?”
Which is a question that reveals to us a lot about the dehumanizing nature of war that makes it inherently unjust
The Vatican has been addressing this tension of reality since at least JPII, and has made it increasingly clear that Just War Theory likely points us towards a framework where we should be operating under the presumption that in real life, war will (at least almost) always be unjust in practice
Just War Theory is just that, a framework for determining how a war could be theoretically just if action is limited in an extremely precise manner
And just because a hypothetical war could be considered just does not mean it has ever happened in practice
So even if you are relying on Just War Theory you cannot definitively state that any war that has ever occurred, especially with the added devastation of modern warfare, is in fact Just in terms of at least the Catholic understanding of God
Also to be totally clear for folks
Just War Theory in Catholicism is a lot more complicated than “the war that I think is good is good”
It is heavily debated if literally any war has ever even met and stayed within the bounds of Just War Theory (staying within the bounds is the bigger issue)
JD Vance trying to lecture the literal Pope on theology is just the exaggerated version of the flood of Protestant converts to Catholicism who never actually deconstructed their belief that they need to “save” Catholics and instead pasted into radtradism as the only valid form of practice
Idaho has the most punitive anti-trans bathroom ban in the country, with up to five years in prison for a second offense. I spoke to the folks pushing back—over what just a few years ago led to calls for boycotts, the state legislature shamed on the national stage—on how they fight.
It’s profoundly ignorant to suggest that the Pope should be fighting crime on behalf of the Catholic Church. Anyone who was remotely familiar with Roman Catholicism would know that that’s what Daredevil is for
If this is someone’s awakening to how bad things have gotten, I’m glad they know now
But if you’re surprised by the direction this has gone you have not been paying attention and even more likely have been ignoring what is in front of you
Also to be clear I am absolutely side eyeing any Catholics that are reacting to this news without either directly acknowledging or have a history of directly acknowledging the ways this administration has attacked our atheist, Muslim, Jewish, and basically all other non Evangelical neighbors
At this point I feel like I need to get a betting pool going to see if the SSPX folks or the mainstream but MAGA Catholics are going to hit full on schism first
I was going to give it to SSPX but with Trump putting his foot on the gas…….
I have…….A Lot Of Thoughts™️ about how certain factions of the US Catholic Church are going to react on this. We‘re a lot more polarized than a lot of people realize and I am…watching to see how the persecution complex crowd reacts to the rising threat of actual persecution coming from their guy
I just want to say that I have been saying this entire time that the MAGA support for Catholics was always conditional on political utility
This alleged threat is the least surprising turn of events when you look at the long arc of things
I gave up social media for lent what did I miss
🚨 Requesting help:
I am looking for an agent who can facilitate more speaking gigs, podcast appearances, and interviews with journalists
I want to more widely share my story and expertise as a trans geneticist who understands the reality and complexity of "biological sex" 🏳️⚧️🧬
Please signal boost?
Please do this. As a chair in a deep red district we need tons of help building a real party and you will have considerable influence.

The job market has been hard on everyone but definitely for early career attorneys with what has been frequently described as “niche but deeply necessary expertise” 🫠
Howdy folks! Some of you might have noticed that www.transingboundaries.com disappeared for a second there, but good news, it’s back! A bunch of new folks are following me here now, so if you’re interested in the intersections of law/politics/religion/queerness, consider subscribing! (Thread)
If any journalist wants to talk to a trans man with a PhD in Human Genomics who was trained in labs that studied the evolution of sex, I'm right here
Or just keep platforming Republicans who have a 5th grade understanding of biology so they get more trans people killed, sure 🤷🏻♂️
Having grown up a journalist’s kid in Indiana I’m not all that surprised that the IN Senate voted no on this map
A LOT of the folks in the Indiana Legislature across party lines do not care for the federal government coming in and trying to bully them into doing ANYTHING
Not only are sex and gender different but interrelated things that sometimes overlap but legal sex and biological sex are different things that serve different functions but also sometimes overlap
FIRE has long been associated with the cause of “academic freedom” championed by its right-wing donors, so I wanted to see how its much-publicized expansion into free expression has played out.
Among its newest stances? Support for conversion therapy on religious-based free speech grounds.
Big day for my most annoying character trait (Indiana University Marching Hundred alumni)
Hello five word horror story in my LinkedIn notifications this morning
It's an actual game plan on the right. They use it for book bans as well. They start with something easy: no porn in libraries. That hooks in the low information folks. Then you slowly broaden the scope until you're yanking any YA that violates Christian nationalism.
