Editorial boards’ opinions are important to the degree they verbalize or influence an identifiable group of people, or to the extent they provide useful arguments. The current Washington Post board speaks for no group beyond Jeff Bezos, so there is no reason to be upset with it

Didn't he do this before? He had a previous "moderate" turn, right, back in 2016 or 2020? Or am I thinking of another Fox News associated grifter?
This should go over extremely well with families struggling to get by in the heartland. www.nytimes.com/2026/04/21/b...
one of the ways the mid to late 20th century political world has distorted the historical memories of even sophisticated observers is in the idea that you can achieve major transformations of american political life through something like bipartisan consensus
This is really cool and funny because North Mexico has been struggling with a series of Measles breakouts and it is presumed that they’re largely a result of transmission via USA along with the mennonite colonies which, by no coincidence, travel regularly to the other side of the border.
Tucker Carlson: I'II be tormented for a long time by the fact that I played a role in getting Donald Trump elected. We're implicated in this. I misled people.
It'd sure be nice if Kamala Harris' campaign organization wouldn't constantly promote Tucker Carlson, Alex Jones, Megyn Kelly, and whatnot. But oh well.
How profoundly immoral.
you get: the astounding power of the supreme court of the united states of america
we get: some vague modicum of ethical behavior
apparently this bargain was a bridge too far, so I propose a new one, which involves impeachment and jail
Aside from being a major hassle for me, personally, this is also going to (as the article notes) lead to the creation of vast new swathes of illicit activity
A mass shooting that took the lives of eight children should stop this country in its tracks. Instead, the Shreveport tragedy disappeared from the headlines in a day. We cannot allow this level of violence to fade into background noise. Ending America’s gun‑violence epidemic is a moral oblligation.
“Government issued identification documents are necessary to access public life. When they do not accurately reflect a person's sexual identity, the transgender Montanan is prevented, based on their sex, from obtaining the same attributes of public life that a cisgender Montanan may obtain.“
Canadian doctors obeying a U.S. executive order that doesn’t even apply to Canada is deeply offensive to both trans people and to Canadian legal sovereignty.
Lori Chavez-Deremer is resigning and since I am one of a handful of people directly responsible for setting into motion a series of events that led to her becoming Labor Secretary, I am feeling good about her total collapse and sad flight home to Clackamas County.
My only thoughts for 4/20 are that large amounts of public marijuana smoke are a scourge on major American cities. It’s bad for quality of life and public health to have to walk through a miasma of pot while you’re enjoying NYC.
I’m for legal weed across the country, but smoke is still bad for you!
Here is a more serious take: confidentiality is one of those norms that is respected within systems in which everyone agrees on the rules of the game and trusts that others are following the rules in good faith.

genuinely stupid, middle management is a hard hard job, and the glue of companies. Any exec (or IC) who thinks this is a bullshit job is, charitably, not paying attention to how companies actually operate
this is another point the book makes; the specific forms and displays of wealth have changed just as rapidly as the methods and speeds at which one can accumulate it
The 2024 election had the largest Black-White turnout gap in more than three decades. It's a crisis, my friends.

This is the kind of thing that people on here panic over--and it IS really obvious and crude election meddling that people SHOULD get angry about. But it does sound like the officials in question have dismissed it with the disdain it deserves, so no reason to think it'll WORK.
"Strong priors lead to overconfident stories about noise" describes a great deal of writing about the economy.
It's like what says @diplomatofnight.com regarding Democrats and Israel, the reason they're willing to spit in our face and assume there won't be any consequences is because there is a long track record of them doing exactly that. If we want that to change, we're going to have to actually change it.
one of the things that's going to need serious attention in woke 2 is corporate governance of publicly traded companies, and the duties of a board to the company and the company's shareholders and employees
And so I will circle around to my constant point: the instinct for a comforting aristocracy is endemic in the human populace, and the job of democracy is to ruthlessly destroy it whenever it appears. Not build a political, legal and moral (prosperity gospel) framework which fucking encourages it.
This is horrific

When you elect a Dem majority at the state level, they immediately set about passing good, thoughtful policy. Nobody talks about it. Everybody talks about the Wesleyan freshman. Why is that?
YOU have probably been suckered into talking about the Wesleyan freshman instead of MD leg. Why is that?
one of the most insane aspects of all of this is that "a wide ranging government crackddown after a handful of newspaper cranks said insane things based on misunderstood cherrypicked papers" is considered illegitimate in every field of endeavor except this one
