there’s this weird sensation alongside the “down-turned” lips—i feel older, and more discerning.. can’t explain it any more than that, now. but it feels good, physically and otherwise.

my mouth does plenty of smiling! it can feel other ways💋

it was So odd a moment

i felt warmly towards her—my asking how she is was a genuine reaching for connection! i felt like i was smiling!

my face is being comfortable for me.

(her not feeling my connectedness is a good reminder..)

she said, “well, you’re not smiling..”

and i told her some of what i tell you now: i am smiling through life. this is the context of my time, though not always reflected on my face.

today i asked the person ringing up my groceries how they’re doin, and they asked me in turn—“i’m doin just fine,” to which she says, “i’m not sure if i believe you”

shock! i am lovely! the sun is out! how to respond to this weirdly invasive invalidation? “what’s not to believe?”

reflecting lately on changing patterns.. one example being the way my face moves. dropping the mask(s) that got me through an adolescence where my self was unwelcome.. the corners of my mouth feel as though they’re drooping, but really i’m just not stuck in a smile
