I Awaken at the Sound of a Dropping Coin by Aaron A. Reed A roleplaying game for two players about the future and the past

I made a new (short) #TTRPG ! It's a two-player storytelling game where one player is a mechanical fortune-teller who only knows the future, and the other a lost and lonely seeker who only knows the past.

(yes I stole the title from Blue Prince)

The Human Skill That Eludes AI Why can’t language models write well?

AI executives and researchers “readily admit that they have not yet released a model that writes well,” Jasmine Sun writes. She speaks with AI experts about why LLMs are built in a way that is antagonistic to great writing:

Mario is selling a book called “it’s a me.” He’s at a book reading meet the author event. He says “so I said to myself, Mario you’re on your last life. If you want to write a book, you have to do it now”

I feel like a core problem is that they don’t know what they don’t know, so they’re not interested in reading a long blog post about how standards really work. Can they be helped? If so, how?

This is more of a meta question, but, IME I encounter a lot of newbies posting irrelevant stuff on standards-related GitHub issues. They usually seem to think that by clear, forceful arguments they can force browsers to do what they ask. (XSLT 3, for example.) How best to help them?

I think restricting it to home screen web apps could be ok if there were a way to ask users to install to the home screen. Something like the App Store smart banner would be just fine. But on iOS the user simply has to know how to do it, a multi step process, and only then can we offer a push prompt

@jensimmons.bsky.social I can't read this article, because webkit.org appears to be down right now. I get a 404 error on the home page! 😬

wife: how was guarding the two paths today, honey?

guard: [looking away] fine

wife: did something happen?

wife: would the other guard tell me something happened?

All four major web browsers are about to lose 80% of their funding Google pays for 80%+ of the development budget of all major web browsers, and soon, the US will force Google to stop supporting their…

It's interesting how monopolies are not only sustained by cutting off competition, but also supporting others (without endangering market control) in ways that appear altruistic or pro-competition--making it harder to unwind

I think asking in public was a good idea, but now that this article is out there, and flagged, and now that you've posted a followup, I think it's time to email HN and ask. The story will be much stronger with an addendum: "I emailed Hacker News asking about the flag, and they declined to comment."

I did a bunch of research into this for the definition of Baseline, and we settled on “30 months from the newly available date.” Would you want more precision? What would you use/need the precision for?

Reviewing copyeditor changes and tried to leave a comment saying "MUCH BETTER THANK YOU!"

Instead I typed "MUCH BETTER THAN YOU!"

Oops. Sorry, @laura-hirsb.bsky.social. Even the revised sentence can't be better *than* you.

Luigi Mangione, who was arrested and charged with murder in the shooting death of United Healthcare CEO Brian Thompson, once belonged to a group of Ivy League gamers who played assassins, a member of the group told NBC News.

In the game, called "Among Us," some players are secretly assigned to be killers in space who perform other tasks while trying to avoid suspicion from other players.
