Democracy will not come Today, this year Nor ever Through compromise and fear. I have as much right As the other fellow has To stand On my two feet And own the land. I tire so of hearing people say, Let things take their course. Tomorrow is another day. I do not need my freedom when I'm dead. I cannot live on tomorrow's bread. Freedom Is a strong seed Planted In a great need. I live here, too. I want freedom Just as you. Langston Hughes

Among the many reasons for Viktor Orbán’s defeat were the rural clubs where citizens relearned democratic habits. @galbeckerman.bsky.social on the role of the "Tisza Islands" in the Hungary election:

He just didn't realize that there was a thriving market for corners in the inner city. That's the place where everybody really just wants to find a quiet corner to sit down in.
Bank of America is trying to make sure their customers can't be part of class action lawsuits ... or much any lawsuits.
Happily, consumers can still opt out of these one-sided changes. I have. My guess is that you should as well.

This is a concentration camp.
Here's an essay on how wage and wealth imbalance is evidence of a labor monopsony. A monopsony is where there is only one buyer (or a few).
Would corporations notice if a whole lot of people started looking up the definition and pronunciation of monopsony? #labor #union

This really does feel like how russian propaganda videos feature a recurring cast of randos
-When faced with credible allegations of sexual misconduct like Swalwell, Democrats resign.
-When found guilty of sexual assault 34-count convicted felons like Trump are elected by Republicans to be president.
-Democrats demand good, Republicans celebrate evil.
Just ask the Pope ...
This is a really good essay by Kyle Kingsbury (@aphyr.com). It highlights the serious issues of AI development.

I mean, it worked for Charles de Gaulle.
If Hungary can free itself from the rule of a corrupt Russian agent, the USA can too.
Trump has become synonymous with corruption and in an election where a major issue is corruption (as in Hungary), an endorsement by Trump is an admission that you are corrupt.
Orban and kin can't see that because a fish can't see the water they swim in, but the people of Hungary could see it.
We just raised a glass to the messages that the people of Hungary have for fascists there (and everywhere):
The power of people united is unstoppable

You assume a relation to reality that is tenuous at best.
I’m Team Pope Leo.
And you don’t have to be a practicing Catholic to think — what the hell is wrong with the Pentagon’s mouthpiece?
This is repugnant.
A McDonald’s where the sign has been reduced to McDo.
There is no McTry.
I went and saw Project Hail Mary.
A guy came in with his service dog and the dog sat there the whole time just concentrating on the movie.
Afterwards I told the guy I was amazed your dog watched the movie like that.
He replied, me too especially because he hated the book.
I find it very interesting when *you* paint leaves.
Here's hoping that the town of Nuremberg, Pennsylvania gets to host Trump and his cronies in the near(ish) future.
I am *sure* that they can find something to do with him based on the name of the town.
I'm on the train back to DC – I call on all my colleagues to come back, too.
Congress must vote to end this war IMMEDIATELY.

"This is not making America great again, this is evil"
Like @markhamillofficial.bsky.social , I am stunned to find myself completely agreeing with Marjorie Taylor Greene.
She is right, though, so here I am.
Congress must act as well.
There must be three republican house members who are less than certain that Trump will chicken out yet again, who think that there is a risk that Hegseth will egg him into committing the worst crimes imaginable.
They have to act on that doubt and impeach immediately.
If you support Trump because you think that he is bluffing, that his threat of coercion through murder is a negotiating tactic, just how confident of that are you?
Are you absolutely, bet your life sure that he is bluffing?
What if he isn't?
What nightmares will your inaction leave you with?
In an age of creeping relativism, a universal moral law still exists.
Threatening to end an entire civilization of 90 million people in order to bend a nation’s conduct to your will is grossly morally wrong. It is evil. And we should say this loudly.
